I've seen a lot of the same questions appear over and over again in threads, so I thought I'd make a FAQ that will hopefully clear some of this up. If you see something that's wrong or something that should be added, please reply and I'll add it to the OP. And lastly, if you enjoy playing on this server, please help it stay up and running by donating (http://www.project1999.com/index.php?pageid=donations). Disclaimer: These answers apply to Project 1999, but not necessarily Project 1999: Red, as it is a PvP server and has slightly different mechanics and can be a different place in the release timeline.

Server Rule Questions

What are the server rules?
In general, just don't be a dick. Check out this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159515) for the full list of server rules. The raid specific rules are here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189856).

Can I pay real money to ____?
Nope! Real money trading (RMT) is expressly forbidden and offering real money for items or services in game, or vice versa, will get you a one way ticket to ban town. Full details of this rule are located here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3996).

How are raid mobs being handled?
See this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189856) for details. In general, this being classic Everquest, there are no instances so all the rare mobs / raid bosses are hotly contested. They have long respawn periods (including many that only spawn once every 7 days), and additionally there is a small variance on raid target spawns, so no exact timers can be set, only "windows" in which the mob can spawn. Good hunting. (http://38.media.tumblr.com/ad0efeced0125136512293dbd532de80/tumblr_mloatoOYhr1rysa8wo6_500.gif)

What are the rules regarding camps?
See this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132299) for the current rules and discussion. Basically the group/person camping has to "maintain a presence", and there's no showing up right as the mob spawns and taking it from a person/group because you know its spawn timer. Again, the "Don't be a dick" rule comes into play.

Server/Installation Questions

What do I need to play?
A copy of Everquest Titanium. No other clients are compatible.

But I still have the original CDs for Classic EQ and Kunark and Velious! Can't I just use those?
No. Only a fresh installation of the Titanium client will work.

Does Project 1999 support the Seeds of Destruction Client?
No, see answer above.

Can I play on a Mac?
With a bit of work, yes! (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56238).

How do I get started?
Read this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2651).

What server should I choose?
There is currently a PVE "Blue" server and a PVP "Red" server. The Red server doesn't have item loot but does have coin loot and has a significantly smaller population than Blue. The Red server also has a substantial exp bonus that doesn't exist on Blue. Both have their upsides and downsides and it really comes down to personal preference. You can learn more about the ruleset for Red here (http://wiki.project1999.com/About_Red99).

How do you keep the server running?
Well it takes a lot of bandwidth to keep 800+ people online at the same time almost 24 hours a day, something to the tune of several hundred dollars a month. Please donate (http://www.project1999.com/index.php?pageid=donations) if you enjoy the server!

Can I play with my roommate/family member? It says there is only one account per IP allowed.
You certainly can. Make a thread in the petition forum (http://www.project1999.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25) stating your account name, the forum account of the person you want to play with, and their account name. Just be aware that if you're caught 2boxing or otherwise controlling both accounts at once, it will result in an immediate ban of both accounts.

I just got this error message, what does it mean?
You are currently not allowed to login to the server because this IP has a temporary block on it. Please try again later.
Means that you attempted to log in multiple times from the same IP. Just wait a bit and it'll go away.

Why does this spell say I need level 255? Why am I stuck in lavastorm under the world?
You probably did something wrong during your installation. Double check this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2651) and if the problem persists, search the technical discussion (http://www.project1999.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40) and bug (http://www.project1999.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6) forum to make sure someone isn't having the same issue.

Are there any additional files / UIs / EQ Client customizations I should know about?
Yes! All of these are optional and are not necessary to play Project 1999, but you may find them useful.
Velious 'Oldschool' UI (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11239), the closest thing to classic you'll find.
qqui (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232071), a minimalist UI based off the Velious UI that allows for multiple hotbars .etc
Transparent Visors (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=75341&postcount=22), (Human/Half Elf plate helm fix)
Classic "Sky" textures (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183118)
Animation fix for Iksar 2HS / Archery (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262117)
EQClassicHD (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=280545), a retexture project that stays relatively true to classic but updates faces, armor, and items to be more HD / textured.

Where should I post _____?
Here's a handy flowchart (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11956) to help you navigate these forums. Thanks to mmiles8 (http://www.project1999.com/forums/member.php?u=5839) for making that.

OMG! The last patch broke something!!! What do I do?
Please go post in the bugs forum with a detailed and well documented explanation of the problem and what the correct behavior should be. You can find a guide to writing bug reports here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26223). If you don't provide documentation (I.E. archive.org, old allakhazam comments .etc) backing up your bug solution, there is a high likelyhood it will be ignored until you or someone else does the research.

OMG! The last patch did something that wasn't classic!!! What should I do?
If you can prove that the change did not happen at any point between Original - Velious, please go post in the bug subforum with your evidence (again, please follow the guide to writing bug reports (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26223)). Remember that this is a free server and the devs are trying to follow the original patch history, but some things will be patched earlier than live, and some will be patched later than live, so don't freak out.

OMG! The last patch introduced a new spell file and now I can't log in! What do I do?
Download the latest eqchanges.zip from the the most recent patch thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11) and unzip it. Note that the EQEmu launcher is no longer supported. Still not working? Double check you unzipped the files correctly. Try manually dragging each file from the zip file to the correct directory (spells and dbst both go in sony/everquest, and the globalload goes in sony/everquest/resources).

Where can I look up the original patch history of EQ Live?
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches.html
http://www.tski.co.jp/baldio/patch/
Shadows of Luclin was released in December 4th 2001, so almost everything from 1999 through 2001 is considered classic.

Game/Mechanic Questions

How far will this server "progress"? Will we see all of the expansions?
No, this is specifically a classic server meant to recreate the 1999-2001 era of classic Everquest. This server will never see the Shadows of Luclin expansion, but everything up to the last patch before Luclin will be released. More fine-grain detail on the live server progression can be found here (https://wiki.project1999.com/Players:EQLive_Timeline).

Where can I find information about Classic EQ? Spell lists, maps, tradeskills .etc
Almost everything you will want to know can now be found on the Wiki (http://wiki.project1999.com/index.php/Main_Page). Please contribute!

What expansions and zones are open?
Paineel is open.
Plane of Fear is open.
Plane of Hate is open.
Plane of Sky is open.
Temple of Sol Ro (and related quests) are open.
Kunark is open.
The Hole is open.
Veeshan's Peak is open.
Velious is open.
The Warrens have been added.
Plane of Hate/Fear are now revamped.
Stonebrunt Mountains have been added.
Chardok has not yet been revamped, this should be the last major patch on Project 1999.

What is the progression?
This server started off with classic EQ, with no planes unlocked, no expansions. It has slowly progressed since it launched on October 2nd, 2009. Planes, Kunark, and Velious are all out now.

Are there any items I can only get for a limited time?
Yes, many items that were "pre-nerf" on live will be obtainable on this server for a limited time. For example, manastone and rubicite dropped until Temple of SolRo came out and now they are no longer obtainable except via trading with a player who still has one. Holgresh Elder Beads dropped for the first couple months of Velious but now they also no longer drop.

What pre-nerf items are no longer obtainable?
Check out the full list here (http://wiki.project1999.com/Removed_Items).

What are the experience penalties/bonuses?
By Race:
Troll -20%
Iksar -20%
Ogre -15%
Barbarian -5%
Halfling +5%

There are no longer any class experience penalties
Rogues and Warriors still get an exp bonus however:
Rogue +9%
Warrior +10%

For historical purposes, these used to be the penalties:
Paladin / Shadowknight / Ranger / Bard -40%
Monk -20%
Wizard / Magician / Enchanter / Necromancer -10%

How does group exp work / get split up?
There's a handy explanation written by Dumesh Uhl'Belk (http://www.project1999.com/forums/member.php?u=2454) located here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24405), I highly recommend reading it if you're even marginally interested in exp mechanics. Also be sure to check out the Game Mechanics (http://wiki.project1999.com/Game_Mechanics) page on the wiki.

Short version of group bonus:
2 person group - 2% total bonus.
3 person group - 6% total bonus.
4 person group - 10% total bonus.
5 person group - 14% total bonus.
6 person group - 20% total bonus.

Are there exp bonuses for certain dungeons?
Yes. To see a list of zones and their exp modifiers, click here (http://wiki.project1999.com/index.php/Recommended_Levels_and_ZEM_List). Disclaimer: that list is a "best guess" based on the values found on the PEQ server. It's not currently known which zones receive exactly what exp modifiers, but in general newbie zones have a bonus, and dungeons reward more XP than outdoor zones due to the increased risk.

Do pets or damage shields take experience?
You must out-damage your pet or it will take 50% of the exp. This rule does not apply in group settings, so even if your pet outdamages the combined damage of everyone in your group, it will still not take experience. In order to get experience when using a damage shield, you must do at least one point of damage or the DS will eat all of the exp.

Damage shields effectively lower the amount of damage needed to kill the mob. To provide an example of this let's say you are a mage soloing with a fire pet. If the damage shield does 400 damage on a 1000hp mob, the mob effectively has 600 hp, so in order to out-damage your pet and get full experience you must do at least half of 600hp. If your pet (with its fists/weapons/nukes) manages to do 300+ damage during the fight it will steal 50% of the exp. The damage shield belongs to no one, so your pet's DS doesn't count towards it's contribution to the kill.

More pet information available here (https://wiki.project1999.com/Pet_Guide).

Where should I level?
Check out this handy page on the wiki (http://wiki.project1999.com/Per-Level_Hunting_Guide).

How much mana does specialization *actually* save?
Well, it doesn't always take affect, it's a random chance per spell cast. But when it does take affect, you save:
At 200 specialization (your chosen school), 10% of the total mana cost
At 50 specialization (the rest of your schools), 2.5% of the total mana cost
More detail can be found here (https://wiki.project1999.com/Skill_Specialization).

How is weapon damage calculated? Is the best ratio simply damage divided by delay?
Nope. It's ((weapon damage * 2) + damage bonus) / delay. Read this page (http://web.archive.com/web/20010613230142/www.mysticalorder.com/avgslash.shtml) and this thread (http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5485) for more detail.

How are offhand swings calculated? Do I want high damage or best ratio in offhand?
You want low delay in mainhand and best ratio in offhand. The damage bonus does not get applied to offhand weapons, and your offhand swings independently of your mainhand. Read this (http://www.thesteelwarrior.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119) thread from the Steel Warriors forum for more detail, or peruse this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6613) from our forums for discussion and explanation.

Do weapons proc based on weapon speed?
No. In fact if you are slowed you are more likely to proc on every swing, but the chance to proc per minute remains the same. The only way to increase proc chance for a specific weapon is to increase your DEX. Kanras made a post explaining the DEX/proc mechanics (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=303374&postcount=144) on this server.

The rough formula is (DEX/170) + 0.5 = proc per minute rate for main hand, and offhand is half that rate.

How does AC work, and does Agility really affect it?
Shortish version is that AC is a combination of the 'hard' AC numbers from your armor and your avoidance added by agility. The AC stat determines how hard mobs hit you, and your avoidance determines how often mobs miss you. The total AC stat does not accurately reflect the amount of avoidance you receive from the agility stat. There is a significant avoidance penalty if your agility stat is below 75 (after buffs and gear are taken into account). See this informative post (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=72221&postcount=6) for more details.

How does meditate work?
You need to train meditate for it to start going up on its own. You do not need to sit with your spellbook open, just sitting will do the job. Int casters get meditate at level 4, Wis casters at level 8, and Hybrids at level 12. You can find more detail on the rate at which meditate raises your mana here (http://wiki.project1999.com/Skill_Meditate).

How does taunt work? Is it broken?
It's not broken, but it might not work how you think it works. According to Rogean (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19527&postcount=13): Taunt puts you at the top of the aggro list. If you are already at the top, it does nothing. However it does fail a lot, and it doesn't have a visible fail message, so just keep trying until you have aggro, then stop using it until you lose aggro. As of a recent patch, level 60 taunt can now affect mobs up to level 65.

How does hide/sneak work? What mobs see through hide?
Sneak will work against every mob, even gods, as long as you are behind them. Hide will work against almost all mobs, even most see invis, but some mobs like the occasional bat in solb and some things in the Planes, Veeshan's Peak, and Temple of Veeshan will see through hide. If you're in a high level dungeon, make sure to con things before you brazenly walk in front of them.

Do boats work?
Yes, although they can take quite a while. There are no translocators or soulbinders on P99.

When does in-game night start and end?
It actually varies from zone to zone. It seems the common time is 9pm to 4am (8 in-game hours). One in game day lasts 72 minutes.

Misc
Hasten ONLY takes 3250 gold. If you hand in 325 platinum, you will lose your Ring of the Ancients.

Pets summon at random levels, within a level range determined by the spell you cast, for a full list of level ranges see the pet guide (http://wiki.project1999.com/index.php/Pet_Guide).

Manastones only work in "old world" zones, this means no Kunark/Velious/Planar zones.

Chardok is currently pre-revamp, the next patch will likely include the Chardok revamp.

For more information on various game mechanics, check out this (http://wiki.project1999.com/Game_Mechanics) highly informative wiki page.

Unanswered Questions

What is the exact mechanic for determining what the upper and lower bounds are for your groupmates to receive experience?
How is taunt affected by the mobs level relative to yours?

If you know the answers to any of these and can provide evidence, please let me know.

Sky + Paineel were the last two things added before Kunark.

Kith Forest having high level undead was finally triggered after Plane of Hate opened. Yet are in game now, so be warned when travelling from WC to Highpass.

Shadowed Men mobs are currently in game but were not added in real classic until after SolRo Temple opened up.

Boats do not work, translocators in place instead.. hail them for keywords.

Box of Abu Kar has a chance of dropping on any 35+ level mob, will be gone when Fuzzly Tinkleberries (or whatever the gnome merchant in SolA castle was named) goes in to sell the Tinker bags.

That's all I got to add off the top of my head.

Nice work so far :)

Halfling +5%

Why?! For the love of the Nameless Why!?

Seems like you guys are getting an unfair bunch of criticism lately. I don't know all the ins and outs of this stuff about the planes or whatnot, and don't really care. I will only be a casual player, and do the kind of raid thing casuals did back in the day (naggy, vox, maybe some plane raids if a guild has some room).

So I really don't care about any of that drama honestly. As regards the rest of it, I'd actually prefer if you never opened sol ro. Manastone, abu boxes, and guises will be used long after you shelve your sol ro armor forever which happens even in the kunark era for casuals if you play long enough.

And I'd prefer you left Mayong in Mistmoore as the raid mob he was supposed to be in 1999, but that is just me.

It is your server though, and you guys are pretty much doing this out of the goodness of your hearts and I appreciate that.

But like everyone I do have my own things that actually do bother me. And halflings getting that 5% bonus.

A long time ago someone said on a board that halflings were Verant's illegitimate children. I guess they were right.

Come on guys, they have arguably the best racials aside from an ogre's invulnerability to frontal stun. Their stats for the classes they can be are better than most as well. Lack of charisma for druid charming is about the only shortfall I think. And the fact that as a small race they 1) have some troubles with geographic features in the game, and 2) have a more limited selection of gear they can wear. 2) being the more severe, at least for rogues and warriors.

Guys I am going to give you some advice right now. I know they added some bind spots to kunark in a era much later than kunark.

From the get go I personally would put these later bind spots in the game. And I also would peruse the map and maybe add a couple more. There were a lot of parts of velious I didnt' do, it was in a time when I didn't play eq much, but kunark was a total pita in that respect.

But do what you guys think you gotta do. No way I'm playing a melee here as a casual.

5% Halfling bonus was how it was in classic... bind spots are how they were in clasic (or at least attempt to be). That's the point of a classic server.

As far as why Halflings got a 5% bonus? I remember hearing it was a coding error, where the 5% was meant to be given to humans and not halflings, but meh, that's classic.

Now let's get back to the drama...

From the Step-by-step guide to getting started (http://project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40) thread in Files. (post #'s46 (http://project1999.org/forums/showpost.php?p=5287&postcount=46) & 47 (http://project1999.org/forums/showpost.php?p=5287&postcount=47).

How many of these steps are necessary, versus how many are just for making the UI look Classic? Let's say I don't care for classic spell gems or spell effects, would I be able to skip certain steps?

most of the aesthetic changes can be skipped ( ui, spell effects, spell gems, loading screen, etc.)

the dbstr and spells_us files cannot be skipped without causing alot of headache (especially if you're a caster)

The zone changes cannot be skipped if you ever intend to be in, or travel through, those zones.

/shrug

Might be worth adding, just to cover the bases...

Pyrocat
11-22-2009, 08:34 PM
Well, really everything that can be skipped is already listed as OPTIONAL in that thread. The only additional thing that can possibly be skipped without causing errors are the spell gems (aka Step #6) but I haven't tried running an installation without doing that step, so I'm not comfortable advertising that as an option.

Dont forget to update the tidbit about the translocators, also I have seen people in their 20s not realize you only need to sit to meditate. Most people who played classic ask if you need your spellbook open to meditate.

For clarification's sake, I'd edit the following
What expansions and zones are open?
No expansions, just original EQ for now.
Plane of Hate is closed.
Plane of Sky is closed.
Temple of Sol Ro (and related quests) is closed.
The Hole is closed.
The Warrens / Stonebrunt Mountains are closed.
To include "Plane of Fear is open."

The headline does say "what expansions and zones are OPEN" after all, and fear isn't really mentioned clearly.

And Vox, phinny, and CT (zone) are all fixed now right?

Anyway, good faq.

Can anyone confirm that newschool spell gems work?
Half my icons in my spell bar look the same which gets real rough when I have a 1 shot chance between life and death.

I for one would be happy to use the new icons.

So if the exp% +/-'s are multiplied then a halfling ranger would be -40% * +%5 which is -200% which seems a little ridiculous to me. Whereas a troll SK should be +800%, unless you guys mistyped something....

Pyrocat
12-01-2009, 11:27 PM
Exp math is a little weird. I've updated the OP to be slightly more explanatory.

Human cleric = 1.0
any hybrid = 1.4
any troll = 1.2
troll hybrid = 1.2 x 1.4 = 1.68
any warrior = 0.9 (1.0 minus 10%)
any halfling = 0.95 (1.0 minus 5%)
halfling warrior = 0.855 (.9 x .95), which is 14.5% bonus

Yes, until 2001 at which point Verant removed class exp penalties but kept racial. Same patch that introduced Zone Experience Modifiers and fixed group exp penalties (both of which are in effect on this server). This makes more sense to me, since classes are inherently balanced in my opinion (except rangers) but races aren't. Troll warrior will always beat halfling warrior with equal gear because of stats and regen. Ogre SK will always be better than human SK because of stats and no frontal stun. Racial penalties make sense. Class penalties do not. I don't see the logic in keeping *some fixes* that were introduced in that patch but ignoring other ones for the sake of nostalgia.

I've made this case exhaustively on the beta forums and here too, but there was a final decision by Aeolwind to keep all exp penalties and bonuses, so case closed.

"So that's how it was back in 99 when I played the same guy?"

Not exactly: These penalties were shared in groups on Live, and haven't been here (although they're supposed to be fixed at some point in the future).

Big update. Made it extra crystal clear that you need EQ Titanium or SoF and how to ask for an IP excemption. Rearranged some things to make it flow better.

You didn't mention half the bard bugs. Here are some of the major ones:

1. On song failure- the song will continue to play and the only indication of failure will be the effect wont show.

2. Sometimes songs dont cast, the cast bar wont show up at all but you will magically be singing an empty tune.

3. Invis only works 50% of the time and can break itself randomly.

Edit. totally forgot to say thank you for this post. I think its pretty well done.

Greetings,

First off, allow me to say great initiative. I loved EverQuest and thoroughly enjoyed playing from 1999 up until Gates of Discord launched. In particular, some of the fondest memories I have from any online game were from original EQ.

Now for my problem:

I have followed all the guides to the letter. Renamed the appropriate files, replaced the appropriate files and yet when I click on my shortcut of eqgame.exe that was modified so the Target line says "G:\-=Games=-\EverQuest\eqgame.exe patchme" (No quotation marks) it merely puts me on a completely black screen. I see the cursor change to a more roleplay'ish curser, but from hereon out nothing happens. There are no sounds to indicate that anything is going on, either. I have attempted to write my Login Server account name and password via tab and enter, but no effect comes.

I am unsure whether I followed the steps too literally, or not. I created both forum account and login server account on the EQEmulator Forums, edited the eqhost.txt file as appropriately mentioned to "Host=eqemulator.net:5998" (Again, no quotation marks)

I have run the installation multiple times to see if this would fix the issue, but is makes no difference. I used the Titanium Installer.

I am not sure whether or not it is relevant, but I am running Windows 7.

I would very much appreciate some assistance here, and i thank you in advance for your time.

Kind regards,

I can ease your fears about Windows 7. My wife's laptop is running Windows 7 and I didn't have any issues getting everything installed and running on there.

I'm running XP on my computer and I don't notice a difference.... (other than her computer is faster than mine :( )

I managed to work it out, here's what happened for anyone else who has same problem in the future:

Seems the problem was my desktop was too high on resolution. I set it down some, then it worked fine. After adjusting the resolution in-game, I was able to set the desktop resolution back up to maximum again.
Thanks for the replies :)

btw wizards at least are -20% exp not -10% against a cleric.

Don't know if this is because of a -20% or if there is a stealth +% to a cleric. I also don't know if this affects other int caster's or just wizards.

I have thoroughly followed all of the installation steps, yet I am still having an issue with spells...Both the level 22 SK spells 'Grim Aura' and 'Cure Disease' are still displaying 255 as the level needed to use. I have downloaded the proper files, and extracted them into the proper folder. I have tried re-downloading the files, and re-extracting them into the proper folder, and have re-read the installation directions about 30 times now, and still am having this issue.
Other than DLing the files and extracting them, is there something I am missing??? Where these spells not useable until a later date on live?

....And I did a clean install, and am using the Titanium Edition.

This is working as intended.
Both spells are set to level 255 because SKs couldn't use them in classic EQ.
Check here for a true classic SK spell list:

Thats the answer I was hopin for, thanks...
That link is off a bit tho, it's missing the lifetap spells SKs get, and SK's can't use 'mend bones' at 15, only necros get that.

I am a bit confused about the 1 account per IP rule.

I know this means that two accounts cannot be connected from the same IP unless you petition for it. Does this also mean that you're account is flagged for a specific IP and cannot be used else where without permission?

Would love to load this up in my office to kill things on my downtime :)

When you post for an ip exemption only the two accounts you list can be played on a single IP, that means you can't log in a friend's account while your friend/brother/etc logs in their own account.

Updated OP with information about damage bonuses and offhands and proc rates, since there is a lot of misinformation floating around OOC.

I was in Kedge tonight and the exp modifier was crazy good, quite possibly 1.33, but as the OP states the exact numbers were taken from PEQ and could very well be different here. I saw the code for class modifiers in beta and they are what I posted in the OP.

I've really been looking for info like this myself sometimes.

I have a list of commonly farmed rares I have done so far, but nothing really zonewide. A lot of non dungeon zones have different respawn times too on things, so it can get murky.

As for global night/day settings, I changed up my AC camping after about 24 hours from 8 to 8 to 9 to 7am and proceeded to get him the very next spawn, so who knows.

Why is Splitpaw the mid-30's version? Is the 1st version available for servers? I like that one much better for a low-lvl standpoint. I don't think a lot of people went to it in OG EQ. It was kind of tough to get to, but was such a great adventure point for my guild. We heard word that there was a zone waaaaay out there. So we traveled a long distance from Faydwer and eventually got there. It was really fun to play. Anybody point me in the direction to get the file for that zone so I can play it on my own server?

2 things:

1st, There is no spawn data from the zone. So rebuilding it would be virtually impossible. I don't think there is even a mob list.

2nd, No one has the original zone. It doesn't exist that I'm aware of. If it did (in virtually any form) we'd have rebuilt it.

The easiest way to deal with resolution issuses is to start with something basic like 800x600 the every system(monitor) should accept. then once ingame just alt-o and adjust to something that works there. Also as it was mentioned a few times here is windowed mode ftw.

Neuro,
Downloading them wont help you much they are disabled in those zones whether or not you have the files.

I think the map function regardless is removed from the zones, the Titanium package should've included all the maps (Seeing how maps came in around LoY and were basicly given to everyone around PoR), just be happy the starting areas have them, cause the Map feature sure as hell isn't classic.

Need to add the following:

Technical issues:

Q. My client is crashing to Desktop before it gets to character select screen!

The Options menu does not display all of the odd screen resolutions we see these days so if you need something like 1280x800 it won't appear in the list on Options. If you pick the closest one (eq 1280x960) BOOM EQ wouldn't get past server select. The solution is to get into the file \Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqclient.ini (or whereever you installed Everquest) and modify the section that looks like this:

WindowedWidth=1280
WindowedHeight=800
Width=1280
Height=800
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
WidthWindowed=1280
HeightWindowed=800

Obviously replace 1280x800 with whatever your screen resolution is (rt click on screen, Properties, Settings, Screen Resolution slider) and you should be good to go.

Blah Blah...blah...WHAT -EXP AGAIN!!?!

The only thing i dont understand about this is the purpose it is supposed to serve it was originally passed as a bug eventually...what is the point of punishing certain classes for playing that class? i could rant on for hours about this subject but i will try to keep it short...

It makes no sense to have certain classes and races have a -exp bonus first of all some of the (what are supposed to be) hybrid classes arent really hybrids the casters all use each others spells but that doesnt make them hybrid its just like learning some of your first spelsl in D&D (fireball being the most common one). Just because they all use fireball does not meen that they are being hybrids...I could be a warlock and use fireball just like a mage could use a fireball. Warlocks are generally considered evil where as mages are generally considered good. These two types of magic users hate each other and use different methods to cast their spells.

As far as melee classes go first of all bards are not hybrids songs arent really spells in my opinion bards are sort of their own thing. Monks are also their own thing what other class uses their fists more than any other weapon in combat? they dont even have spells the only thing they have in common with other classes is FD and even those are used as spells on the only other two classes that can use it. SKs are sort of a hybrid but they dont really use spells from any other types of magic users as far as a i know (i didnt play this class to a very high level).

What purpose does it serve to have certain races and classes at a disadvantage to other races and classes? There is no point to make these classes and races less played all it does is makes people mad because they cant figure out why their halfing rogue friend is leveling 2X faster than them.

Although i do appreciate this server for bringing back EQ i don't appreciate the server managers adding what was passed off as a bug in the original game.

http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2651

After completing the Guide above, you must make a few modifications to your Everquest files. Navigate to your Everquest Titanium folder and move the following files out of the folder (Preferably create a new folder named "Backup" to put them in):
arena.eqg
arena_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
lavastorm.eqg
nektulos.eqg
Nektulos_EnvironmentEmitters.txt

Then download the following file and extract into your Everquest folder, overwriting any files if it prompts you to:

Navigate to the uifiles/default folder within your Everquest Directory and copy the files from the following zip into it:

In regards to this question and answer that was posted: Can I play with my roommate/family member? It says there is only one account per IP allowed.
You certainly can. Just make a thread in the petition/bug subforum stating who you want to play with and other relevant information. Just be aware that if you're caught 2boxing or otherwise controlling both accounts at once, it will result in an immediate ban of both accounts.

I would like to play with my son using 2 accounts but don’t want to have them locked out since they would be off of the same IP (Public). If I was to purchase 2 static IP addresses would this solve my issue?

Thanks

If you're confused by the "controlling both accounts at once" part, that refers to one person playing both accounts at once, not two people playing together.

Go to the Petitions section of this forum and post your request for an IP exemption.

Then wait patiently for a couple weeks :P

Chanus

The IP of the individual computers doesn't matter, it's the IP of your router... like the IP address that would show at ipchicken.com

Denethor
01-11-2011, 04:09 PM
Sorry, that part I understand. I currently have a DHCP address given to me by my ISP which is a public address that is issued to my router and of course theirs private Ip's behind that that the pc's actually use. However if I have a DHCP that's a public address on the WAN side of my router can't that changeas well? I'm not trying to argue just trying to understand. Thanks...

Pretty sure they can get around non-static ip's, they would just have to apply the exemption to the user login names, not the actual ip address. (i.e. whenever both account a & b share an ip address X [whatever X happens to be] the server lets them through). Then again, what the hell do I know...
Does someone who has obtained an exemption wanna weigh in? Like, have you tried playing with spouse while not at the IP address you were at when you applied for the exemption?

Chanus
01-11-2011, 05:24 PM
You can play from different IPs all day long. I play from home and from work with the same account.

The exemption allows more than one login from the same IP... I assume it wouldn't work if your IP changed... so yeah, if your provider will be changing the IP of your household (or however your setup works), I would assume you'd need a new exemption.

You can have two accounts, as long as only one is logged into P99 at a time. Basically don't get an IP exemption for either of your accounts so you won't be tempted.

Confirmed. I've got my old school Kunark strategy guide here and it says for drawbacks halflings are lazy levelers. It also says that humans level more quickly than other races. I believe this is how it was intended, to offset the lack of human racial abilities.

Yes, I am aware that Vah Shir and Froglock were not available as playable races until their respective expansions (Luclin & Ykesha), and that very fact explains why I get a "you have to buy expansion X or Y" when I try to select those races on the character creation screen.

Is there any planned future support for those races (Vah Shir in particular) on this server, at some later point?

The reason I ask is that my wife loved her Live server kitty, and I was hoping to find her a new home to play in.

I'm hoping this is an effective place to ask this.

As far as needing EverQuest Titanium to work, is a "new" copy with valid CD key needed? Or will a "used" EverQuest Titanium work, presumably with a used key?

I heard about this and started playing EQ back pre-Kunark and am very nostalgic. I just checked Amazon for this edition and "new" are going for $260+ and "used" for $65. Will "used" work?

GretchenRPH
11-11-2012, 01:37 PM
I'm hoping "used" will work as once installed, this FAQ implies one would not be registering or patching through the SoE servers. So then you wouldn't need a valid "new" key?

Seems this thread has been dead a while.
Well, anyway, I am new to P99. Just registered last night. I've been searching high and low (mostly low) for ways to get this baby to work for me (and have searched the forums as well).
I downloaded a fresh install of EQ Titanium Edition as per instruction.
I downloaded the EQemu launcher.
I checked and double checked my files to make sure everything is where it is supposed to be.
But I am still having difficulty logging in.
Maybe it's because I don't seem to be able to locate a eqhost.txt file anywhere on my computer.
I might have a unique situation. I have a folder on my desktop called EQEMU where I have the EQemu launcher downloaded, but the actual EQ game is in a folder in my public files under "Sony Online Entertainment/Installed games/EverQuest". See, I used to play on Fippy Darkpaw a year ago, and still had the game downloaded. I uninstalled and reinstalled, of course, but I'm back to where I started, as far as my files go. It wouldn't let me put it into the EQEMU folder. So, I said, have it your way, Everquest!

Could having two different folders be causing my problem? Yeah, that's a newb question to some of the more experienced players out there. But curiosity begs me to ask.

Finally, I can get into the launcher and the log in screen just fine. When I enter my loginserver account name and password it says, "Please Wait... Loading game..." ad-infinitum. Forever, and ever and ever... never logs in. Again, I have to surmise that there being no eqhost.txt file ANYWHERE may be causing some of my problems. Any ideas?
Yeah, I know that's a lot, but I am in desperate need of help here. I've got some serious problems.
I hope I can figure it out or someone here can help. :(

Shawnleroy27
06-16-2013, 10:57 PM
BOOM! I think I figured it out.
I had to create the eqhost.txt file myself. Not sure if that is normal, or not. Seems to be working now. If I have any other technical questions, I'll be sure to ask. ;)

Feel free to use my stupidity to help improve the FAQ and make it idiot proof.

Hey guys,

the eqemulauncher is currently down, i deactivated it due to the constant DDoS attacks that really piss me off. I will come up with a solution soon, but for now, p99 players will have to update manually. Most other servers are using the new beta version of the launcher, which will continue to work just fine...

I'm sorry that you guys have to "pay" for the scriptkiddies fault.

To keep up to date what happens, you may want to like the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/eqemulauncher

Greetings,
Moe

PS: You can start EverQuest manually with rightclicking the launcher and click Start EverQuest

I swear sometimes the EQEmuLauncher is more trouble than its worth. And I can't believe all the information regarding setting up P99 without the Launcher has been removed...

Here goes:
1) Default install of EQ: Titanium (other clients will NOT work). Copy/pasting the EQ folder from another install works just fine here. (For consistency, I'm going to assume you installed EQ to C:\Everquest so that the eqgame.exe path is C:\Everquest\eqgame.exe.)
2) Right-click on the eqgame.exe icon within your everquest folder, select Create Shortcut.
3) Right-click on the Shortcut to eqgame.exe you created in step (2). Select Properties.
4) In the Properties menu that appears, edit the target line to say "C:\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme. The quotes are only needed around the destination string if it contains spaces. Select Apply and then OK to close the properties box.
5) Open the C:\Everquest\eqhost.txt file in the text editor of your choice.
6) Delete whatever is in the eqhost.txt file and replace it with the following two lines:
[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998
7) Save and close the eqhost.txt file.
8) Download the latest eqchangesvXX.zip file from the patch notes. As of this post, we are on v30, found . http://www.project1999.org/files/eqchangesv30.zip if this post is out of date, just update "30" with the current number)
9) Extract the eqchangesvXX.zip file into the C:\Everquest directory, overwriting any files it asks for.
10) Within the C:\Everquest directory, delete the following files to allow these updated zones to function properly on P99:
arena.eqg
arena_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
lavastorm.eqg
nektulos.eqg
Nektulos_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
11) Log into the server with the account you created at EQEmulator.org (http://www.eqemulator.org/).
12) Select Project1999: The Ruins of Kunark from the server list.
13) Enjoy playing on P99.

Even though this is a FAQ it doesn't belong on the FAQ thread! Your anti-virus software is falsely identifying dsetup.dll as a virus, put an exception in for it (see your manual for how to do that for your anti-virus software)

1. Is the rate at which xp is gained the same as classic or is it accelerated? For example, the progression server is 50% faster than classic.

2. Does this server use old art assets? For example Oasis of Marr and Freeport (hate the new ones).

3. Will this server ever go beyond Velious or is that the max forever or for a really really long time?

Pyrocat pretty much hit this head on. You cannot emulate a feature or function that has been explicitly removed (the ingame map being the most prevalent issue). It's a hard rule to sum up in one sentence, but in short don't be an idiot and justify something through a loophole.

You may modify things that are already there (prettier textures, UI changes), but you cannot add something that isn't (map, compass, showeq, etc). Again don't loophole this, you'll get banned anyways.

Disclaimer: These answers apply to Project 1999, but not necessarily Project 1999: Red, as it is a PvP server and has slightly different mechanics and is at a different place in the release timeline.

Server Rule Questions

What are the server rules?
Don't be a dick (http://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/Wil_Wheaton#Wheaton.27s_Law). Check out this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2651) for the full list of server rules. The raid specific rules are here (http://www.project1999.com/raid.php).

Likewise, expecting or insinuating that donating money to this server will result in preferential treatment or in-game benefits is highly frowned upon and will most likely get your petition/request/.etc ignored.

How are raid mobs being handled?
Currently the only rules governing the raid scene is the Play Nice Policy (PNP), quoted here:

Intentional training will be severely disciplined.
Guilds are encouraged to work out disputes among themselves before involving the staff.
All raid mobs provide an "FTE Shout" that show what guild has engaged. Kill stealing will be severely disciplined.
Guilds may not have any more than two representatives present at a raid spawn location.
To encourage competitive racing, guilds may not camp players out in the vicinity of raid targets.
Invulnerability spells used on engagement may only be for mechanic strategies, and may not be used to stall engagement.

There is a small variance on raid target spawns, so no exact timers can be set, only "windows" in which the mob can spawn.

Velious 'Oldschool' UI (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11239)
Transparent Visors (Human/Half Elf plate helm fix) (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=75341&postcount=22)
Classic "Sky" textures (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183118)

If you don't provide documentation (I.E. archive.com, old allakhazam comments .etc) backing up your bug solution, there is a high likelyhood it will be ignored until you or someone else does the research.

Stonebrunt Mountains is not yet opened (~9 months after Velious launch)
Chardok has not yet been revamped (~10 months after Velious launch)

What is the progression?
This server started off with classic EQ, with no planes unlocked, no expansions. It has slowly progressed since it launched on October 2nd, 2009. Planes, Kunark, and Velious are all out now.

Are there any items I can only get for a limited time?
Yes, many items that were "pre-nerf" on live will be obtainable on this server for a limited time. For example, manastone and rubicite dropped until Temple of SolRo came out and now they are no longer obtainable.

For historical purposes, these used to be the penalties:
Paladin / Shadowknight / Ranger / Bard -40%
Monk -20%
Wizard / Magician / Enchanter / Necromancer -10%
Rogue +9%
Warrior +10%

How does group exp work / get split up?
There's a handy explanation written by Dumesh Uhl'Belk (http://www.project1999.com/forums/member.php?u=2454) located here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24405), I highly recommend reading it if you're even marginally interested in exp mechanics.

You must out-damage your pet or it will take 75% of the exp. This rule does not apply in group settings, so even if your pet outdamages the combined damage of everyone in your group, it will still not take experience. In order to get experience when using a damage shield, you must do at least one point of damage or the DS will eat all of the exp.

It's a little different here. Since our dex cap is 255, main hand proc rate scales from 0.5PPM @ 0 DEX -> 2.0PPM @ 255 DEX.

Chardok is currently pre-revamp and will remain that way until ~10 months into Velious.

For more information on various game mechanics, check out this (http://wiki.project1999.com/Game_Mechanics) highly informative wiki page.

[QUOTE=Pyrocat;5144]Unanswered Questions

What is the exact mechanic for determining what the upper and lower bounds are for your groupmates to receive experience?

I don't know if this has been answered yet, but in a given group, the lowest member must be 2/3, rounded up, of the highest level to receive experience. The highest level must also receive an experience gained message in order for the lowest level to get experience.

I believe there is a minimum of a 5 level swing, meaning a lvl 1 could group with a lvl 6 and still receive exp.

For example:
A level 10 can group with a level 15 and get exp.
A level 15 could group with a lvl 22 and get exp, but not level 23.
A level 40 can group with a level 60 and get exp.*

*The 60 must be able to receive exp from the mob being killed in order for the level 40 to receive experience. As in, a level 40 can not be grouped with a level 60 that proceeds to slay mobs in Guk Bottom, as most all of those mobs are hard green to the 60; not granting experience to either.*

The 2/3's Level Rule has been around since I can remember playing (early 2000). Everyone I ever played with seemed to know about it. I remember being level 34 and grouped with a 51 that AFK PL'd me in Dreadlands forever ago. Moreso, I have been level 40 and grouped with a level 60 in Splitpaw on Blue Server and received no exp on kills, even though they conned blue to me.

Just wanted to ask, to see if there have been any changes? or exceptions?
to needing EQ titanium, or going the steam route? I have spent the last few days looking for the expansion. I don't have $200 to pay out on that expansion pack. And going the steam route i can't pick which expansion i want, it's a expansion package with the first 18 expansions all together. So i am not sure if i have any other options? Or if i am just S.O.L

No, you'll need Titanium. You have other options, but you won't find many who will discuss those with you here. I'm sure if you poke the Facebook group, someone might be able to help you.

Correction: Specialization does always take affect, like it did in classic. If you follow the link, it refers to a patch in 2014

The specialization skills save you mana on every spell cast from that school of magic. The formula is approximately 1% mana saved per 18.7 skill points. This works out to:
At 200 specialization (your chosen school), 10.7% of the total mana cost of the spell
At 50 specialization (the rest of your schools), 2.67% of the total mana cost of the spell
More details on the skill, and suggestions on what to pick based on your class can be found here (https://wiki.project1999.com/Skill_Specialization).

How is weapon damage calculated? Is the best ratio simply damage divided by delay?
Nope. It's ((weapon damage * 2) + damage bonus) / delay. Read this page (http://web.archive.com/web/20010613230142/www.mysticalorder.com/avgslash.shtml) and this wiki article (https://wiki.project1999.com/Game_Mechanics#Melee_Combat_and_Damage) for more detail.

How are offhand swings calculated? Do I want high damage or best ratio in offhand?
You want low delay in mainhand (so that your damage bonus is applied more often) and best ratio in offhand. For a monk, your chance to dual wield is based off this formula: (your level + your dual wield skill) / 400. So at level 60 with 252 dual wield, you'd have a 78% chance to dual wield. For other classes the formula may be different (e.g. / 500 instead of 400). Additionally, your offhand does not need to swing to fire off a proc, the proc check happens before the swing check proof here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=211322).

What do I need to do to get my 79 year old mother back into the game? We played around 1999 together from the beginning of EQ. Cost is a thing. But not a roadblock. She was a good character, but really enjoyed soloing. Can you all help me out? She is on a fixed budget but loved playing. I did too. More than happy to pay. Please let me know what my options are. We both tried the new EQ and want to go back to the fun. As I said. Not going to spend a lot. But not looking for a free ride.

Can you all help me out?

Thanks,

I realize this is a silly question but I am having a hard time.

I have installed EQ according to the guides. Which username and password do I use, and how will I select the Blue server?

I have a username and password for both this forum site as well as the p99 wiki page; do I use these login credentials or do I make a new account with Sony Station?

I do not understand.

Perhaps I installed EQ incorrectly? I receive an error message saying "DB Error Incorrect Password".

Please kindly let me know what to do.

Thank you,

A-star.
