View Full Version : Get disconnected after naming new character

I have been trying to create my first character, and everytime I submit a name for approval from the server I get no response, followed by "you have been disconnected."

I am unsure of what to do. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you trying to make an unavailable character? Some combos that show as valid, i.e halfling ranger, can't actually be made and will disconnect you.

I am trying to make a wood elf bard. I will try other combinations and see if they produce the same result

Edit: I have tried several classic combinations and all of them produce the same result. This issue does not seem to be class/race specific

Sounds like a port that p99 needs is closed on your end.

nah thisis cos its trying to zone you into the `escape to norrath` kobold zone thingy. Forget proper name of the zone.

I made a new toon last week and same thing happened to me. Re started eq, and I had appeared in the correct starting city.....selected that toon at char select screen and zoned into the starter zone as per normal.

Just remember the old addage...If at first you dont succeed....Slap a Gnome.

I just tried a fresh install, and the problem still persists. It's really strange what happens exactly is this:

I can select the proper server and can choose to create a new character. I can get to the final step where you pick the name and diety. As soon as I press next it comes up with the window "Submitting name to server for approval. Please wait." Then it goes unresponsive, followed about 1 minute after with "You have been disconnected."

I am using wineq if that plays any part in it

u trying to make a halfling ranger/pal?

or gnome sk/pal?

those class/race combos arent classic and will keep kicking you off if you try to make them. i know this because it was the first char i tried to make here as well.

if not then not sure.

EDIT: thought above post was the original post. my bad didnt scroll up.

DOes the character get created though, regardless of you getting disconnected?

Happened to me this week, and wheni reloged the toon was there....at the char select screen.

imo thisis because tis trying to load a zone (escape to norrath, (Mines of Gloomingdeep)) that doesnt exist on this server.

which starting city are you chooseing?

--are your spell files uptodate--

This sometimes happens if you try to create a race/class combo that the server doesn't permit, such as Halfling ranger or paladin.

Thanks for your help guys but I finally managed to figure out the problem.

I was getting bummed out thinking it was a closed port that I have no control over blocking access to the P1999 server, since I live on a university campus. I tried turning off my antivirus and windows defender with no luck. The only other thing left for me to try was to add everquest to my windows firewall ignore list as it was the last possible thing that could be blocking me aside from the port.

Luckily enough, the windows firewall turned out to be blocking me without any notifications. It works perfectly now!

Cya all in game!
