View Full Version : Western Wastes - Leuz's Task - Kromzek Giants

It seems that the 7x "a Kromzek warrior" and 1x "a Kromzek Captain" have been spawned for days southwest of Siren's Grotto zone line in Western Wastes.

These guys should only be spawned in response to Scout Charisa being given the Scout Tools and should despawn after a while. I'm having trouble finding information about how long they are supposed to stay spawned, I guess most people left after getting their item turned into the Scout (who also despawns)

Also, The Kromzek Captain is on Kromzek faction but the Kromzek warriors are not.

I'm apprehensive to Kromrif, amiable to Kromzek, and scowling with Tormax. The Kromzek warriors are scowling at me so they're either on Tormax or just generally hostile. I don't honestly know what they're supposed to be on but it's weird that they're different from the Captain.

EDIT:

Further testing - I killed the Kromzek Captain and he respawned something like 10 minutes later. Whether or not these guys should despawn, this should definitely not be happening. They should only spawn when someone triggers them by handing Scout Charisa some tools.

Also, these giants should be aggressive with the various CoV dragons and mobs in WW and vice versa but they currently are not (dragged Glati and a few other dragons to them and no awesome brawls ensued).

Fixed, pending update. They will only spawn from the quest, and have a 15 minute despawn timer.

the Scout (who also despawns)Is there documentation on this? Completed the quest on live, and she did not despawn.

Also, The Kromzek Captain is on Kromzek faction but the Kromzek warriors are not.

Fixed, pending update. Note, killing the captain nor the warriors actually gives faction hits. They are simply on the faction.

Is there documentation on this? Completed the quest on live, and she did not despawn. She doesn't despawn immediately - she had to stay spawned for at least a few minutes so the questing player had a chance to swap out rewards.

(May 29 2001 at 4:10 AM) Commander Leuz is a named drake in Skyshrine; he hangs out in the room at the end of the hall past the kitchen (where Sentry Kale and the cooks hang out).

I was able to harmony pull the captain single today. The captain was 58, and was *highly* MR. The giants were also scowling, ready to attack to ALL, regardless of their Kael faction. Faction hits for the kill were Kromzek, Kromrif, *and* Tormax.

Scout Charisa spawns at ng4700 x ng3900, and is on CoV faction (she con'd as an ally). She did NOT despawn right away, although she did despawn about 15 minutes after I completed the quest. She is on a 12 hour spawn clock.

(Jun 23 2002 at 4:50 PM) What triggers her despawn? finishing the quest? killing her?

(Jul 23 2002 at 10:38 PM) finishing the quest makes her despawn a couple minutes later.

Also, if she has just been used to finish the quest and is still up before despawning she should eat any further sets of tools/not spawn another set of giants. This should be visibly obvious because she should be holding a bag after someone turns in the tools.

(Jun 30 2001 at 5:38 AM) Hey, I want to take a group of 12 or so, and my one question is, how long between doing the quests. I was wondering if there was a way to do the quest, finish it, and start it again right away. Please inform me.

(Jul 01 2001 at 10:41 PM) 12 hours between quests. If the scout is holding a bag, do not attempt the quest. You'll have to wait.

Might be a little more complicated than simply despawning. Since you need to be able to cycle the items through her.

Posts on EQClerics from May 2001 indicate Scout Charisa essentially staying up with the tools equiped (bag in hand) and resetting 20 hours after a Scout Tools hand in. The later EQClerics August 2001 post indicates that she will despawn after 72 minutes from being handed the Scout Tools or the Broken Disk and respawn 10 hours later.

Both agree that if someone had already turned in the Scout Tools and she held them in her hand, then she would not accept another set of Scout Tools until she reset/respawned.

Bugan's links indicate a ~15 minute depop, but also a 12 hour respawn.

Here is the quest:

1. Get ally status to the Claws of Veeshan

2. Go to Skyshrine, speak to Commander Leuz, he gives you some Scout Tools.

3. Go to Western Wastes, find Scout Charisa, look at her closely. (She is a human female on +COV faction) If she is holding a bag, she will NOT take your Scout Tools.

4. If she takes your Scout Tools, she will now appear with a bag in her hands and will not accept another set of scout tools for 20 RL hours.

5. If she takes your tools, about 8 Giants and 1 Giant Captain will spawn near the shore in Western Wastes.

6. Kill Captain. Kill the rest of the giants if you want, but they are irrelevant to the quest.

7. Loot "Broken Disk" from Captain.

8. Go back to Scout Charisa (doesnt matter if she has the bag or not, she will *always* do this part) and give her the broken disk.

9. She gives you a Robe of Benevolence (Caster Reward)

10. If you dont want the caster reward, give robe back to Charisa for a Bracer of Benevolence (Melee reward)

11. If you don't want the bracer, give bracer back to Charisa for Talisman (Priest class reward)

My guess is she doesn't actually have any of the items on her until you do turn ins.

Nazrin-

Yes, you must be an ally to the Claws Of Veeshan for this quest. Considering how easy the quest is, the only hard parts are the faction (which is EASY to get if you have't taken too many -COV hits) and the quest can only be done once every 20 RL hours.

That's a supremely nice robe for enchanters, btw.

Dex is worthless for a caster. (At one time we thought it helped with channeling, but this was disproven.) And no caster is going to get their AC to a point where some AGI loss is going to matter.

August 2001
Quest starts at Commander Leuz in Skyshrine (he's in the room just past the secret wall in the pit on the way to bank), say 'I will volunteer' and he'll hand you the scout tools. Take the tools to Scout Charisa in western wastes (she spawns directly south of the siren's grotto tunnel entrance, looks like a female human) and hand them to her. (Note: if she has a bag in her hand, someone has already done this step, and handing in the tools won't do anything) You'll need amiable or better with Claws of Veeshan for this. This spawns the giants directly west of Charisa, on the shore.

There's a number of ways to split the giants - harmony works - but the easiest is probably to have a monk, sk or necro aggro all the giants and run west along the shore, feigning once the third rock is in sight. This rock works nicely since the only things that path by here are a single velium hound and Von/Glati, who should be non-aggro, since you're on CoV faction ,right? The rest of the group should be set up here, waiting. The giant captain is faster than the rest of the giants, so he'll be out ahead of the other giants when the puller feigns. The giants don't reset, they just stand around until they depop (~25 mins), so the puller should /q out, and someone else should tag the captain and pull him to rock. The rest of the giants will stand there until they depop or Glati/Von paths by and gets killed by them.

Onto the fight itself, the giant captain is red to a level 60, has approximately 80k hps and doubles for 240 with low delay. I'm told he's 100% MR, but lures will land, and he may in fact be slowable, I've never had a 60 chanter or 60 shaman there to try. You'll want a level 55+ warrior with defensive to tank him. He's fairly easy, but it's a long fight with 1 group, and you'll probably need c2 or a bard to keep the tank alive the entire fight.

The least people I've ever done the fight with was one 59 monk, one 60 necro, one 60 warrior and myself, a level 58 cleric at the time. The monk and warrior died, as did the necro pet, the captain killing himself on the necros 8th ring damage shield. The monk, however, was only present for half the fight, being that he'd /q'd out after pulling.

Once the giant is dead, loot the broken disc from his corpse and take it to Scout Charisa. Hand in the disc to receive the robe of benevolence and a note, hand that to her to get a bracer of benevolence, finally, hand that to her to get the talisman (ac 7 wis 15 hps 38 mana 55 svcm 12, range slot). Charisa will stay up 72 minutes after receiving the tools or the disc, after which she'll depop. Ten hours later, she'll respawn.

Take the note back to Leuz in Skyshrine to get some faction, and you're done.

k, so here's how this works now.

-Charisa (bag taker) is on a 36000 second spawn.
-When you give her the bag, she depops and spawns a new Charisa and the giants. (I think this happens on eqlive still. Her face changed, and she had a bag equipped after I turned in scout tools)
-Charisa (disk taker) sets a 15 minute depop timer, won't accept the bag, but will accept the disks, and will exchange robe, bracer, talisman etc.

So, I set it at 15 minute despawn instead of 72. I think there might be some griefing issues if its longer because.. someone can hand her a sword or something, and replace the bag graphic in hand.

Also this quest was set for warmly. It will now require ally.

This quest is now going to be stupidly poopsocked.

Also worth noting I couldn't get close enough to the mobs to harmony them without getting proximity aggro. Even though it says they should be harmony pullable. Do they have a large aggro radius here or something?

Are we starting Velious with ally or will this quest not be doable for 6 months?

There is a new /consider message: "regards you as an ally". This is the highest level of friendliness that an NPC will register using the /consider command. The faction required to reach this rating is significantly higher than 'warmly'.

We've made a change to the Velious armor quests. The folks in Kael and in Skyshrine that give out rewards for these quests are now being stricter about who they will reward quest items to. You will have to be considered an 'ally' (see Features section below) by these NPCs in order to be able to complete these quests. If you are doing quests for the Coldain, however, they are somewhat less picky, and they only require that they consider you 'kindly' to reward you for your labors.

Get a druid/ranger on giant faction to help (or anyone with sneak - super easy to sneak pull the captain as well).

Getting the tools from Leuz should only require amiable. The Charisa parts there's less agreement but there's a number of posts citing success with less than ally - several claiming it worked with amiable faction. There's also clearly a general consensus that if you charmed the mobs to do the turn ins, you as the charmer could get the rewards, but indiff bystanders could not:

(Jun 29 2001 at 12:37 PM) The chanter was the first to get the disk and was able to hand it in and get the robe at amiable. I waited to hand in the disk till i got warmely. This item rocks by the way. Very easy for a group of 6 to complete. Only challenge is to find her up. Goodluck.

(Jul 24 2001 at 7:28 AM) The lezu is a drake, you need to be amiably to do the quest, sneak or invis will not work.the Scout is on cov faction, and i dont think you can sneak and give her the tools or disk also..the captain is on kromzek faction, it ISNT kos to all people, scout is on 12 hrs respawn cloak, when shes holding a bag, this means someone has already done this,so come back 12 hrs later and do it.

(Nov 26 2001 at 5:16 PM) I have seen where you have to charm her to do the quest? Is this the same for everyone or just those that do not have good enough faction with the dragons, I do understand that you have to have amiable or better just to initiate the quest, but will she still scowl at you? even if you are amiable?

(Mar 02 2002 at 2:06 PM) did quest today with kindly...killed the commander with 2x monk 1x cleric 1x druid 1x paladin
This post from 2002 suggests that amiable worked (could charm her to turn in) but that she was eventually changed to be uncharmable to prevent this.

(Mar 06 2002 at 8:20 AM) you used to be able to charm her to hand in the gear that drops off the captian but no more. I tried this tacitic today, but shes not 100% MR, so no way to sneek through by, if you want this item you need to be on CoV faction.

(Mar 12 2002 at 3:40 AM) i went to Skyshrine with a guild chanter tonight and tried to charm commander luiz to begin the quest. we were able to charm him but when i hailed him he did not acknowledge me as being able to start it. chanter did and she was able to get the note from him. with chanter charm, mob becomes pet so is amiable to chanter but was indifferent to me since i'm on Kael faction atm. so it seems that you may be able to do the quest (or at the least start it) with faction to CoV as low as amiable. not sure about charisa however.

So I followed a post in the Quest bugs forum (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142848) (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142848) but will repost it here since Schortt linked this thread. I know some of this has already been addressed and deleted portion about Kromzek Captain.

To add to this Scout Charisa was still Scowls to Kindadar at warmly CoV. She seems to be on the wrong faction maybe as Yelinak as her primary instead of CoV. Also if someone with the faction to get the tools from Skyshrine spawns the giants another person without faction should be able to loot the Broken Disk and turn it into Scout Charisa for the reward. Tried this twice last night with sneak turn in and Dictate, ate both times with no response at all.

Yes, and unless the person looting is KOS to the scout, you wouldn't even need to pacify the scout. When I got my Talisman I didn't have the faction to get the tools from Leuz, so I had a friend do it and I looted the disk.

As of the day of this post having someone with Ally starting the quest then having someone with dubious faction did not work for me. I tried with my enchanter main (Ally to CoV) and had my druid(dubious to CoV)loot the broken disk for turn in she said "I will do nothing to aid beings like you." Had I thought about it I might have tried using hide or harmony of nature, but two days prior I did the same with my cleric alt (amiable to CoV) and it worked so I thought nothing of it. Basically my summation is somewhere between dubious and amiable is the cut off. I'll post back another time if I try again once my druid has a bit more faction. Either way it's still a wonderful quest given the reward, just sucks scout charisa is so rarely up when I'm in the area and the wait for a respawn... well Smiley: sleeper

Changed the turn ins from ally -> amiable for Leuz and Charisa based on evidence. I saw a few reports of "get ally with COV", then proceed. Schortt's links were good enough to change it to amiable.

Are we starting Velious with ally or will this quest not be doable for 6 months?

It's not that big of a deal to change the armor quests to accept Warmly, then require Ally around May 2001, but I guess it depends on the scope. Were the armor quests the only ones that changed with the Ally patch?
