So you combine these runes to create a spell scroll, and in order to do that you use this Lexicon that looks like a red book. The Lexicon is a 4 slot container with a combine button on it.

Conjecture:
All the research containers should be like this. The container itself didn't appear on Allakhazam (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=22193) until around 2003 and wasn't updated to 10 slots until sometime between 2006 (http://web.archive.org/web/20060616183941/http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=22193) and 2007 (http://web.archive.org/web/20070527004638/http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=22193). I think there was a spell research overhaul with LoY in 2003 that required the larger container. Anyone have any further details?

I was curious about this. I saw 4 slots on the Mac emulator and couldn't find any evidence when I searched around.

This seems legit though I don't know how they would make this change without getting a ton of items deleted from people who use these as bags.

If the devs have a clever solution to this problem, sign me up for classic.

There might be a way. They could arrange it so the old containers only display 4 slots. When the player takes an item out it would get filled by one of the items that isn't displayed, and so on until only 4 items remain in the container. That would give everyone a chance to rearrange their stuff without too much hassle.

These 10 slot research books are commonly used as containers since they are easy to obtain and are cheap. Please make sure the fix is introduced in such a way that people don't lose half their inventory items. At the very least, make a large announcement indicating when items in these containers will poof.

Another option is to change them all into large/deluxe sewing kits when Velious launches.

I had wondered before why so many people here used these to fill up their bank when I didn't remember it back in the day. Now we know why.

If we need further proof here is a picture of the Necro research book:

I wonder if they can make the change and have any items in slot 5-10 from those bags get cursored?

I guess you could swap them with Deluxe Sewing kits or something.

Sounds like a real headache for everyone who manages sky banks and spell banks

Pay newbs 60 plat per hand made backpack. Or just settle on 8 slotters.

I will say for sky banks though, I absolutely hate how White Spiroc Feather and Bronze Disc are giant items.

Cursoring all the items would be a huge hassle. I'd log in to chars with 50+ items queued on the cursor and nowhere to put them except the ground. Perhaps devs could introduce a command to claim poofed items one-by-one. That would allow you to exchange your research books for proper 10-slot bags before blocking your cursor with items.

They could just rename all the current ones and make them no drop with some dumb weight penalty so the only reason to keep them would be if they were on a random mule like sky, spells, tradeskills, etc.

Yea I was considering they could replace them all with Trader's Satchels and increase the weight from 10->100, so they couldn't be used for walking around bags and couldn't be traded. Then you'd likely have to change the Satchels to be LARGE instead of GIANT.
