For me its Butterfly By Crazy Town.
When I first started I was watching VH1 Countdown and this song was playing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKzX5zRdsq0 . Listening to this song while in Greater Faydark just brings it all back. First character was a High Elf Cleric.

Pretty much Queen of the Stone Age's entire first album released in late '98. Specifically Regular John, If Only, Avon, and Mexicola. Listened to it constantly in Jr. High/Highschool on my discman.

Ive never been much into music. I distinctly remember watching TCM while they played Ferris Bueller's Day Off one night while I leveled my monk in OT with a grp circa 2003. I downloaded that chase scene song and used the in game mp3 player to listen to it a lot...

Many, many, many.... far too many nursery rhyme songs. My daughter was born in 2000. There was a time when I used the family comp in the living room where we would have the music playing for her, or Sesame Street on while I played some EQ.

Granted, I wasn't quite into metal back then as I didn't develop that taste until I started playing guitar, but it's a whole album based on Tolkien.

So many...

Robbie Williams rock dj.

LOL, Robbie's perma coke-face.

I was 20 and living in Las Vegas in 1999, so my roommate and I always had Sandstorm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HQaBWziYvY), Encore Une Fois (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO05NftxXgc), and other trance going during exp/girl grinds.

I was back and living in OC CA during the SoV and SoL eras, which brought some Staind It's Been Awhile (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=araU0fZj6oQ). It was much more of an emo time...

I've noticed this effect applies to video games as a whole if you're a sound-bug. Personally, sometimes the soundtrack itself is good enough, like in Final Fantasy Tactics. I met my wife in 1995 and played the shit out of FFT 1997 through to EQ launch. My wife STILL finds the menu sounds comforting because of how we'd hang out back then in college. (Glad I graduated before I tried EQ in July 99...)

There is an old DOS game from Sierra called Hero's Quest (renamed Quest for Glory). I had a copy of that in high school that I played to death while listening to Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits and Jimi Hendrix Experience Smash Hits.

I wonder how normal it is for a man to feel the need to talk to pixies when he hears the opening screechsong of Joplin's version of Summertime. I also know that Purple Haze helps one play cribbage with hermits.

There's also an element of Ozzy's Tribute album grafted to my cortex near whatever portion controls the F-Zero logic unit.

Oh shit.

I got old.

That and the banking music. It's so damned... soothing? I wouldn't be surprised to find the bank midi playing in one of those Eastern-philosophy-themed relaxation spas.

I had an ITunes playlist with every album by RUSH and Iron Maiden listed called EQ. I'd put it on random and play for hours so... Rush and Maiden...yeah. The Kelethin and banking music takes me back as well.

Did not read most of this thread, but I have the PoTime.mp3 as my ringtone. I chopped it to a good 30 second clip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IboI8H4XYio

I considered using PoEarth (another favorite EQ tune), but there's not as much variety in the music for me to pick it out of life's normal cacophony.

I really dig the PoP soundtrack, many great memories there. Of course Kelethin sound track, and a few other bits definitely get me all nostalgic.

Glad im not the only one that really enjoys PoTime / PoEarth tracks.....

For me its things like Outkasts Stankonia(and previous to 2000 albums), Goodie Mob, Bone Thugs, Lost Boyz, Tribe Called Quest, Tupac, Wu Tang, Three Six Mafia, Busta Rhymes, Mobb Deep etc... Depending on the mood at the time things like Korn, Beatles, Elton John, Pink Floyd, RUSH, the list goes on.

As for one song I'd say Bone Thugs n Harmony - Crossroads, reminds me of BB every time.

all Tool, specifically Lateralus, every time I hear that song I picture a troll shaman running through North Ro. Also swamp song reminds me of innothule. Stinkfist reminds me of lower guk.
Foo Fighters - Everlong reminds me of a gnome caster running through steamfont.

I also would have my boombox/radio propped up on my desk and just listened to the local rock station so alot of those 2000s rock hits bring up alot of nostalgia for me as well.

Dark Tranquillity's older stuff for sure, that's when I really started getting into death metal / black metal, Opeth was another one. So many to choose from.

Or, understanding time management. I'd say I probably got more out of those years than most, not just gamers. My typical schedule consisted of school, work, lifting, and EQ after everything was done. Around that schedule, I spent my time traveling, hanging out with friends, and playing with girls. That being said, I had two RL friends that played so much EQ, it ended up pushing them to become Born-Again Christians. I recall one them telling me that he had to quit EQ when he realized he'd lost his job, his girlfriend, and was being evicted. Showering had become a weekly task and eating was barely afforded. Yet, he managed to keep paying for an internet connection and a subscription. He said that the two year period had all been a blur for him, due to lack of sleep... Crazy and sad, but he got his life back together.
