Crash fixes and stuff is done, everthing except the class icon seems to work properly.
i dident notice anything other then class icon that dident work
Do you find anything that dont work or anything that seems to be missing or something, post here and i will try to fix it when i got time or add it.

i recomend to use 1024x768 for best effect of the UI, the pictures is taken in 1024x768

Fixed the merchant/vendor and loot window bug
Fixed the crashes if you logout with the classic UI loaded and login
Fixed more hotbars (need to download the hotbar file)

How to install more hotbars

1) Download this file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CSW16EO3
2) Extract it to your desktop
3) Go to custom UI folder (ie. Everquest\uifiles\classic)
4) Copy the file you extracted from this file and past it in your classic map (ie. Everquest\uifiles\classic)
5) Enter game and load the skins and get up to 4 hotbars

Bug fix for crashing (thanks mixxit)

UI crash on zone bug. It appears the UI was attempting to load the cached data in UserData folder

Go into it and delete all files in there and the UI will work flawlessly

Why do people want a classic ui? I'll take usability over using a barely functional ui for no other reason than nostalgia.

Playing in Faydark atm, and noticed that there wasn't as many noob pops as there was in the origional or doesn't seem like it. Just throwing that out there

Classic noob pops were pretty much the same. They increased the spawn rate in newb areas later on in the game...don't remember when tho.

To make this UI or others more usable, use /viewport. It will allow you to reduce the size of your viewable game screen so your UI doesn't cover the viewable area.

I use the /viewport command, but what numbers should be entered to get it to work well? It explains the usage, but i can never seem to get it to work properly.

i believe its left, top, width, height. Pretty easy to tell by testing though.

Anyway, if your resolution is 1024x768, and you want to clip the bottom third of the screen off and dedicate that to chat windows, a command like /viewport 0 0 1024 512 will make it so. If you want to put narrow pane of stuff (like spell icons and buttons) up the left hand side, something like 50, 0, 974, 768 might do that for you.

i found out the issue was down to applying the project 1999 ui patch to fix the spell icons -
by not including the file window_pieces02 and just using the one in classic it was fine!

ok it's almost perfect!

Remaining two issues:

1) You cannot trade with vendors - it just shows no icons in the vendor lists (i swapped to default to check it wasn't something else and it worked fine)

2) There seems to be some problem with the UI where you can only load it after you've come into the game with default. If you then try to play the next time you log in - you will crash to desktop when going past character select. I think some elements must be missing or something like that. To work around it you have to rename or delete classic and login then reload the skin. Gets kind of annoying everytime you want to play.

Other than that i'm really looking forward to using this full time! I just have one tiny suggestion though:

a) Make the spell book big enough to cover the viewport for a resolution of 1024x768!

actually, loot seems fine ignore that

for the merchants:
replacing equi_merchantwnd.xml with the one from default will work around this problem

not sure how to get the slot version working but would like it if someone figures it out

I am very interested in this interface, but have a couple questions. Where are the spell gems and am I able to split that one chat bar into three in order to choose what text goes where? Just don't want combat spam to ruin this possible UI for me!

Is there a possibility of you removing percentages from every bar as it used to be? I.E. Exp bar, Mana bar, Health bar, Target bar and so on like the Japino ui?

It's weird. Whenever I log in for the second time with this skin loaded it will go past the loading screen then crash (the hard drive will read heavily for moment - i think this is something to do with the crashreport being generated)

I'm using basic titanium install no extras other than the files provided here.

What could it be! I love this skin so much!!! I need it!

Gah! This will never end!

I am getting closer in that zoning doesn't cause the crash any more but still when I login for the first time it does this issue.

I am wondering if it's expecting a window or something that's not there when it's reading the UI Files?

I did notice tradeskill containers are missing (try the sewing kit) but if it's reading from my userdata it could be the NPCDialog save stuff they added or something similar. I'll tinker around and pull stuff in from detault and see what I can come up with. It's totally worth the effort as this skin rocks!

Perfect! I am totally installing this when I get home. The newer UI is more usable in many ways I suppose, but I find myself arranging all my windows to exactly how they were in this stone UI, and am not using transparency on anything. I switch between multiple laptops and desktops between home and friends houses, so I am constantly having to rearrange my windows and such. Having this lockdown would be great for my own usability, in addition to the nostalgic feel.

Thank you, I have missed this since day 1 here on P99.

The only suggestion I have prior to testing, is it seems to be missing the character view when you open your inventory. I loved that front facing view to show what your character is wearing, as well as the small space to write a personal bio...though I don't remember if that bio feature was purely classic or if that came later.

Yeah, that was classic. Not sure how it could be implemented though (although like you, I haven't tried this yet).

I can't seem to find my Userdata folder anywhere in the Sony directory. I used basic Titanium install as well... any ideas?

The window in the upper left that you circled is called the selector window. Mine was disappearing too, until I found out that I could toggle it on by pressing Alt W. I haven't been able to get the other class animations to display yet, though. I hope this helps.

I was also having problems with this UI crashing the client while zoning on a Windows 7 machine. I would have to rename the UI file to even be able to login on the character again.

The UserData file was empty, so that wasn't the problem.

I solved this by changing the shortcut to run in Windows XP sp3 compatibility mode. Now it works fine, doesn't crash on zonein anymore. Hurray!

I played around with the UI a bit today and I have decided not to mod it at all, its just too much hassle to try and make it completely the same as 'classic' and I don't think its worth my time for the amount of people who would actually use it.

Ah well. Thanks for looking at it at least.

The main reason I'm using it is because of nostalgia. I became so familiar with the old interface and the classic spell icons that the UI updates changed the game too much for me; it just wasn't the same. I probably wouldn't be playing on this server if I didn't have this UI to use, it's that much of the experience for me.

Is there some reason this isn't worth using? Is some critical functionality missing? I can use /viewport to make it so that none of my screen is actually obscured by the opaque windows, and there are various things that can be done with the hotbars. What's wrong with it?

I also love this UI, mainly for the fact that it does remind me of the early days, and I find it has all the functionality I need. I think it has a clean look reminiscent of the first UI in EQ. I run it at 1360 x 768 on my 32" lcd tv with plenty of room in the viewport.

It is also a popular UI on EQInterface.com so there are a few of us out there that like it, but apparently it is a hassle to mod, update etc. I have not had any luck changing the class animation or the spell gem icons but I am also very limited in my skills as a modder.

If I am not using the classic UI I use the Velious. Also reminds me of the older look and feel of EQ. I am just not a fan of the scrolly filigree junk of the default UI pieces.

First of all, I love the graphics of this UI it is just about perfect and a little extra stuff just to make it as good as other UIs! Thanks for all the work Dr.Spike!!!

Now to my questions, does anyone know how to make the spell icons correct? If I use the default ui the game works fine with the old school buff icons (I use eq emulator launcher and thats why they probably look correct). However, when I use this UI its still the old spell icons but... there the wrong ones. Skin like wood is being displayed as a haste, minor healing a shielding spell... its wrong for every class :(. Also necromancer pet spells have no icon and its impossible to put them on my spell bar without having to right click on an empty slot.

Secondly, since there is no spell book anyone know how to save/load a set of spells on your bar so you don't have to load all your main spells spell by spell every time you die or after finish buffing?

Lastly, has anyone found if the class icon is loaded in one of the .xml so we can just trade it with another .tga depending on what class were going to play?

1. The graphics of the UI only really lets you play in 1024 x 768 and honestly how many people still play at that resolution.

2. Delete the gemicons and spells tga files from the Classic UI folder. It will load the defaults and work correctly.

3. There should be a spellbook or you can't scribe your spells. Ctrl B is the default macro to open your spellbook. There are no spell save sets as its not really classic is it? Can it be added? Sure.

4. The class icon does load correctly, its just off the left side of the inventory window and isn't seen. The SK symbol you are seeing is from the selector window which is just using the bag/SK symbol as the press/pressed button to open the Inventory.

Ok not good.

It installs well and loads up well - looks good !

But it crashes the game upon zoning, and then the client at launch.

Had to delete the classic UI folder to get the game working again.

Looks exactly like I would want it, shame for the crashing :s

I can't believe this hasn't been made a higher priority from this community. I'm super interested in having this UI, but it sounds like it's not worth even attempting at this stage of the game. Is this still being worked on?

I just started using this UI again, even if it is a bit buggy. Seems some of us still love it even if the majority hate it. I will probably grow tired of it at some point and go back to the velious UI.

If anyone else plans on using it I have a couple tips to pass on if they havent already been posted:

If you need a program to unzip a RaR file there are several out there, I use Free RaR Extract Frog.

After unzipping it into the uifiles directory, next be sure to delete the EQUI_MerchantWnd.xml file from the classic folder. Otherwise you may not be able to see or buy anything from merchants.

Then download the classic round gem icons from Savok:
Savok's Classic Icons Rounded zip file (http://home.comcast.net/~savok/project99/classic_icons_rounded.zip)
and unzip those into the classic UI folder.
This should give you classic icons that aren't an exact fit but they are pretty close and look better than the defaut.

Two things I can't stand about this UI, even if it is classic: I have to adjust the chat window apha settings to almost transparent so I can see some of the different color text, especially guild chat. Also the pet window isn't an exact fit into the UI. Other than that I still love it :)

you would need to replace the buffwnd to the default one to have spells as floaty

the top left panel is the Alt-W buttons window

I know about the XML error, that's cause i removed group LFG buttons etc which the software expects in the group window but isn't appropriate to classic :-)

while i'm proudly flaunting my obvious inadequacy at this UI thing, anyone found a good colorscheme for the chat text? cant seem to find a good classic feel, I remember all the white text was black but thats about it.

Yea theres a bunch of text i cant seem to be able to change, bright yellow and whites annoying the piss out of my eyes, the chat entry, target text, white cons, faction text.

Just to note, it was a serious bitch to do this - the client sends updates to the Inventory window not the game buttons (selector) window - so it would never receive any changes

So to get around it I needed to add the screen element in the inventory window and call that piece from the selector window

It also meant I had to position it in the inventory window off screen and then move all of the selector window along to account for the offscreen position - pain in the neck

Erm maybe you can help me with another issue...

Whenever I load this UI in full screen and switch it to 1024x768, it pushes the screen to the right (off of the monitor). Doing /viewport doesn't really fix it.. Not sure what the problem is as it doesn't do this with any other UI.

This UI was working fairly well for me at first. Maybe a 30% crash rate upon logging in to a toon from the character select menu. But now it's a 100% crash rate. Seems to only happen to the toons I have that have loaded the classic UI. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I had the same issue, worked fine at first then it became impossible to log in any account with it enabled, seemed to only occur in populated zones.

Ended up just stopping using it altogether, sort of sad i really liked it :(

Can you guys provide more info for us to troubleshoot? It's a nightmare trying to solve if we know nothing.

What OS and service pack. What error do you get and what XML files are crying when you try and run it?


Also anyone that runs it fine can they share their OS and Service pack they run?

Everquest runs fine, but only half of the classic ui is showing... The only thing we get to go off it 'your xml files are not compatible with everquest. Typee /loadskin default 1 to load the default ui' this is shown as the first line in the chatbox, apart from that i can still run around, use my spell gems but things like the targets window are cut in half kinda, i can grab a ss tomorrow but can't right now.

try alt+w for the missing part, you probably have panels disabled that would be in there, like the biq ugly EQ button and stuff.

I tried running it in the past, it made me crash on every single zone/log in, can you guys zone ok with it?

I know some 'incompatible xml' errors appear - most likely due to it missing various buttons like the guild hall button etc :) it should be fine though - not sure about the crashes but seems pretty stable outside of zoning at 1024x768

Why do people want a classic ui? I'll take usability over using a barely functional ui for no other reason than nostalgia.

Live eq is more “usable” than p99 in virtually every aspect. Go play that.
