This post is an advice thread for any blue players interested in trying out PVP for the first time.

Theres a few interested players on P99, many that missed out on playing classic EQ pvp during live.
And in all honesty, this advice column would prolly be directed at the newbies
(elitist on an established PVE server are comfortable and may not want to switch or sacrifice an established rep)

These players have been, or are lurking on the sidelines
wondering if they should give red99 a try, occasionally reading our posts, stories and updates.
I can attest the fact that ive had conversations with blue players on P99
players that wish they had a chance to go back in the day to experience pvp play, but never did.

ALOT of these players are still debating, and are hesitant on wether they can handle classic EQ pvp due
to all the veteran talk that most (vets of live/vztz) post in these sections.
So from the vets, im askin:

* getting started
* what should i expect
* (fookin scotch! i know i had at least 2 more..will add as it grows)

Anyway, help out some in building the community! - none of this "well if you cant handle it BS" - give some protips and tell it like it is

AFK = A fine kill

Whining and crying will have the opposite effect of what was intended.

You may not even receive help if you ask, you will likely receive NO help if you don't.

As many of you blue players have long suspected, PVP isn't as hard as PVE.
If your an elite player from p99, you will have no trouble on r99, your superiority will shine through the chaos with ease. In time, you and your guild will lead r99 as you did on p99.

If this is your view, dont change a thing.

Alot will start, some will ragequit, few will stay, all will die, repeatedly. Taking your death like a man is one thing that will earn you some respect quick. QQ is the fastest way to the hall of shame. Everyone will be griefed at one point, don't QQ to GMs or in OOC, just accept your losses with class and you will be remembered as such.

Get in first person, put your cursor above the chat window, and use the mouse scroll button to back out. You want that view so you can still strafe.

Resist gear are absolute top priority while things like haste aren't too big of a deal in PvP. The two most important things a melee will need to know about:

Jousting: I'm sure you know what it is. Practice that shit. Practice it on your own computer. If you used to be good at it but haven't done it in years, practice it again. Your ping determines exactly how you should joust, so you need to sort of re-learn it every time you're at a new place. The guide would be too long for a post here and you can find one if you look around.

Resist gear: probably the most important thing to a melee class, or anyone really. With the right resist gear, you can be almost immune to nearly all spells. Without it, casters will automatically win. List of the common resist gear:

split paw hide mask/golden diamond mask/lizardskin tribal mask

platinum wolf's eye necklace/white gold necklace

blackened iron coif/skull-shaped barbute/crown of the froglok kings/crown of king tranix

platinum diamond wedding ring/platinum jacinth wedding ring

mithril vambraces/hollowed bone bracers/fiery vambraces

wolf's eye golden bracelet/symbol of loyalty to vox

no gloves really except ravenscale for rogues

bloodstained mantle

dwarven ringmail tunic/advisor robe/shiny metallic robe

cloak of the ice bear

no belts

mithril greaves/icy greaves

charred boots/firewalker boots

scepter of flame

shining brass shield/crested mistmoore shield

dragoon dirk/runed bone fork/thex dagger

cryosilk, drakscale .... his list is bad but helpful to noobie boobies.

I listed the common and easily available items. Forgot drakescale belt, not gonna list every piece of classic gear with resist on it.

What levels can these things be attained?

split paw hide mask (30)/golden diamond mask (crafted)

platinum wolf's eye necklace (crafted)/white gold necklace (40ish)

blackened iron coif (35ish)/skull-shaped barbute (45+, tends to become really cheap pretty quick)/crown of the froglok kings (45+)/crown of king tranix (45+, rarest item on the list)

platinum diamond wedding ring/platinum jacinth wedding ring (both crafted)

mithril vambraces (45+)/hollowed bone bracers (35ish?)/fiery vambraces (30ish)

wolf's eye golden bracelet (crafted)/symbol of loyalty to vox (30+)

no gloves really except ravenscale for rogues (mid-30s)

bloodstained mantle (30)

dwarven ringmail tunic (15-20)/advisor robe (30ish)/shiny metallic robe (40+)

cloak of the ice bear (35ish?)

drakescale belt (30)

mithril greaves (45+)/icy greaves (30)

charred boots/firewalker boots (30ish too)

scepter of flame (mid-30s)

shining brass shield (10?)/crested mistmoore shield (25ish)

dragoon dirk (15-20)/runed bone fork (25)/thex dagger (?)

Almost all of it can be traded for, and most of it will be cheap after a few months. Some of it is the common drop from mobs that are perma-camped for their rare drops.

my advice for first time red players on a classic p99 style server:

roll a necro, push a few buttons and you'll be saying "wow, that shit was easy!" for about the first 45 levels anyway.
