New, old, awesome, gay, metal, classical, no one gives a shit.

I'm just curious.

Killswitch Engage - My Last Serenade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoQrwKJtv_c)

When I was extremely sick and was suffering auditory hallucinations and probably dying, I heard this song on repeat like I was at another concert of theirs. I don't know exactly why but I love this song that much lol

I hate this generalization. While I'm not a big fan, listen to Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaSYvvfzYaE) and tell me there is no skill.

Or Stratovarius - Holy Solos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgRCWwP_cE0)

Or Insomnium - Mortal Share (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WWtUm8BeGY)

All of these songs take an incredible amount of skill to write, play and produce. Blanket statements like that come from the same people who say "Well Rap and HipHop are just talking into a mic". I don't even like rap and I know its so much more than that.

I too have to disagree with you on this one.
Listen to a Cephalic Carnage album, like Lucid Interval or Anomalies and tell me they are doing simple stuff. John Merryman would be amazing even if you took away his kick drums all together.

Then again, we are sharing opinions so who's to say I'm right. But still, there is an awful lot of math out there that blows my mind on a regular basis and it's not the speeds at which they are playing.

agreed lots of counting in these. Just to much going on for me death metal seems like to much trying to be put into a song.

John merryman has nothing on Danny Carey though. Carey has made trips to Africa to study drumming and also learned from the best

merryman is all blasts beats not really intricate

Some metal does take an immense amount of skill. However, a lot of people often mistake playing scales really fast (which is what a lot of metal guitar is) as being difficult.. which it really isn't.

As far as favorite song, ridiculous question. I can't even tell you what my favorite band is, because I have like a 20 way tie depending on my mood.

Tough one

Paint it Black - Stones
Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics
Wild Boys - Duran Duran
Taxman - Stevie Ray Vaughn (Beetles version leaves much to be desired)
Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Tough Enough - Fabulous Thunderbirds
House of the Rising Sun - The Ventures
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
Numb - Linkin Park
Thug Love - Bone
Smokey and the Bandit Theme - Jerry Reed
Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Layla - Clapton Unplugged
Stand Alone - Godsmack

Some will say that Jimi's version of Little Wing was better, but I prefer Stevie's guitar style. I love Hendrix, don't get me wrong. I really like blues guitar and guitar styles in general, pretty much anything done by the Ventures, SRV, Clapton, Hendrix I'm all over. I owned every album that SRV & Hendrix on vinyl put out at one point but lost them in a move.

Depends on the mood, but my current favorite:

August Burns Red - The Eleventh Hour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXqdiDVWB_o)

And I also really like:

Slipknot - Sulfur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAAvNmoqDq0) - Love it when he says "You don't always know where you stand.... 'Till you know that you wont run away!" Because it makes so much sense.

But I have too many overall favorites to list them individually or pick just one. Lots of stuff from August Burns Red, As I Lay Dieing, Lamb of God, 5FDP(LOVE their stuff), The Devil Wears Prada, Slipknot... And many others haha.

Oh, and Trimm, tight links. Good bands, and every single one of those takes much more skill than 99% of rock bands out there today.

Hmm, alot of people here seem to like the same sort of music (general metal type stuff)

how come no ones come along and said lady gaga? is it infact that we're all similar metal-loving, bearded, 25 year olds?

I would say... probably :p

My favourite song depends on who i'm listening to at the moment ( I go through stages of listening to different bands till i'm sick of them )

Doors - Peace frog
Lambchop - You masculine you
Richard ashcroft - you on my mind
Radiohead - karma police
Pulp - Sorted for E's & whizz

These songs find a way for creeping into most of my playlists.

Skinny Puppy - Warlock is the song I keep coming back to over and over again. It's probably my favorite.

Runners up:
Earth Wind and Fire: Let's Groove
Jeff Mills: The Bells
Siouxsie and the Banshees: Peek a Boo
Stardust: The Music Sounds Better With You

The problem with the stuff that I listen to these days is that it's very difficult to pick a favorite song because a lot of the favorite bits are a couple of songs mixed together or someone adding an 808 to some other song.

Skinny Puppy is my all time favorite group and if I had to pick one song of theirs it would have to be Chainsaw. I even named my cat after that song.

They haven't actually written any new material, have they? I saw the documentary of their original reunion "Quiet Loud" and it was basically just touring because they all needed money.

Of course I don't look down upon them for this because the Pixies were never rolling in dough to begin with.

Dr. Dre - Nuthin' but a G Thang.

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre in one song? SHIIIIIIIIIT. Shit like this was a breath of fresh air after the gangsta rap era. It was such a good direction to go with hip hop, it started to really get hip hop into music that was about feeling good and having fun instead of a bunch of pissed off *****'s rappin' about being pissed off.

Probably "Parting Gift" by Fiona Apple... There are a few classical pieces that I'll never stop listening to as well, Reverie by Debussy and Lacrimosa from Mozart's requiem. The list of songs I hate is longer, though.

As many have already pointed out, it's impossible to pick one song as a favorite. So I'll constrain myself to a set list: ;)

Traffic: The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3M8Sk7X51k&feature=related)

Steely Dan: Aja (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaNt5S9pibQ)

GD: Eyes of the World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLDw_gj5e3g)

Allman Brothers: In Memory of Elizabeth Reed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXrcINvsREU)

Dave Brubeck Quartet: Blue Rondo A La Turk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc34Uj8wlmE)

Killswitch Engage - My Last Serenade[/URL

Same band, diff song. I have drank with Joel (the guitarist, and my musical idol) @ the bar downstairs. He goes there at least once a week when he isn't on tour. Great guy, met the drummer once also and played him @ some wii bowling but he kicked my ass.

My song =

Amazing song, in every sense of the word. I have introduced so many people to the genre via this song, ex's etc. I made sure I found the screaming version (original) of the song, so the quality sucks, but oh well.

Like others have said it's tough narrowing down a specific all-time favorite song, so I'm picking one that has been done in many renditions by many different artists. No one variation is my fav, I just love the song.

"Feeling Good"

Cy Grant feat. Bill LeSage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW4fE2x1hxk) performing the original recording, from The Roar of the Greasepaint - the Smell of the Crowd

Nina Simone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8tuTSi6Sck&feature=related) Easily the most well-known, some of y'all might recognize this heavily-sampled version from How I Feel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hwdm1KA1h48) by Wax Tailor, as well as a number of soundtracks, ads or other dubstep/house tracks

John Coltrane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E61EX7Cc680)

Black Cat Bones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoGpaVFfWEk)

Traffic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkqGTw-WjIs)

Muse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmwRQqJsegw&ob=av2e) with a pretty cool music video

Michael Buble (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edwsf-8F3sI&ob=av2n) with a fuckin' awesome video

Pussycat Dolls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1tQIMGEnxY)

Joe Bonamassa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIE6fVNeBXc)

My Brightest Diamond (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW3fvC_eo8U) a great version not many have heard, well worth a listen.

Anyway these are just a few of the many renditions, it's been sung by probably hundreds of artists. Sick song.

i think if i had to choose one it would be Dick Dale's Version of (Ghost) Riders in the Sky

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbQJe8l7GDo (shitty quality... but oh well)

any time it comes up i have to listen to it like 5 times in a row... I still think it is the coolest guitar/drums combination of any song ever... the drum solo is so friggin cool... gets me pumped

honorable mentions:
Iron Maiden: Aces High/Fear of the Dark (badass)
Wagner: Ride of the Valkyries... I imagine this thing playing when I am doing something exciting or dominating in sports haha

I like music purely if it will excite a different mood in me... that is why Rage Against the Machine's debut album was so sweet, my bro and I used to play Doom with that on in the background... awesome!

also, when I need to get really pumped up for something I listen to Scum of the Earth by Rob Zombie... even though I think most of his stuff is... mehhh

wow... looks like from above i like more aggressive/fast music... which makes sense... hate all artsy/slow/emo crap... makes me want to beat people up, i hate self-loathing/pity music... ugh
