Claw of Lightning vs Swiftwind or Ragebringer

Has anyone ever parsed whether or not the claw beats either of those epics in offhand?

Assume high end mainhand, BoF or suicide dagger or vulak dagger etc.

I suspect the atk bonus offsets the better ratio on claw, but I don't have proof and could be wrong.

claw of lightning wins

Aetholar from Awakened prefered Baton + Swiftwind over claw I'm pretty sure.

I would guess the way to figure this out would a flat +3% or 4% damage, on Swiftwind or Ragebringer respectively, out damage the damage percentage increase from increasing ratio on the offhand which only triggers.. 50 or 60% or something of the time.

To reiterate that, does a big ratio increase on offhand result in a greater than 4% damage boost over using epics?

pretty sure we had a very autistic rogue in empire that determined that vyemm's fang (same ratio as baton just no proc) + claw of lightning beat out everything else after a very high amount of parses and that ragebringer was never worth equipping

test did not include vulak or tunare daggers

You guys might be interested in this. I went and parsed a bunch of combos on the takp dev server against a target dummy. Now it's not exactly like p99 (for one, AC actually works there), so the numbers won't be identical to here in an absolute sense, but it is still a classically accurate server mechanics wise and so the combos should be pretty accurate relative to each other. Here's what I posted on my guild forum:

Our hero ranger now has both 255 str and dex unbuffed (as they would with avatar) and is buffed with pred and vog (not warders because we don't want the ds being counted). This is a fair approximation of what a ranger would have on our raids after getting an avatar proc, minus the big attack buff. 2100 seconds (slightly weird number because I was late getting back to computer on the first parse and went with it! It's 35 minutes)

Here we go...

BoF + SW: 150279 damage, 71.6 dps, 62 proc hits, 0 resists
BoF + Tolans: 150294 damage, 71.6 dps, 61 proc hits, 0 resists
BoF + Kriezenns: 156390 damage, 74.5 dps, 96 proc hits, 0 resists
BoF + CoL: 153441 damage, 73.1 dps, 69 proc hits, 0 resists
Sal D + BoF: 157170 damage, 74.9 dps, 91 proc hits, 9 resists (all Thunder Strike)
Meljeldin: 149288 damage, 71.3 dps
Tolans + CoL: 138598, 66.0 dps
Sal D + SHFD: 127068, 60.5 dps, 79 proc hits, 12 resists (all Thunder Strike)

Never considered Baton + Kriezenn's. Bet that would be nice. Then again +2.9 dps hardly seems like a noticeable upgrade.
Interesting how Baton + Tolan's performs the exact same as epic.

Write a parser to figure it out empirically.

KEWLGET 09-11-2017 05:19 AM

so the tl;dr of that is that claw of lightning is the best non-proc offhand and that it's only very slightly beaten by proc weapons that parsed with 100% hit rate (extremely unlikely)

salindrite dagger shouldn't even be considered since it will be resisted almost all the time and is a high aggro proc

I mean -100 check DDs are pretty reliable. I actually like the idea of a lucky streak doing crazy damage. Think I might aim for Kflame over claw.

Naethyn 09-11-2017 11:46 AM

Kflame is terrible. The proc hardly ever lands (I don't think the -100fr works) and it annoys me how it has FR, but anything with FR is immune to the proc.
