Low Fps?

Hello, I'm new to this server and everquest. Got this game recently, but i don't plan to subscribe to the real servers, since i dont even have credit card. I like old mmo's like ultima and anarchy online, because theres many things to learn and discover in them, something missing lately. Graphics aren't something i care about.

Problem is, that when using eqemu, i get extremely bad fps, like 1-2 fps, and graphics setting doesn't seem to change anything, wether its fullscreen, windowed or whatever. Furthermore, the game works perfectly fine on Shards of Dalaya. This server doest appeal to me much tho, as there are less people and as I understand, it isn't the "real" everquest...

My laptop isn't even remotely new, but i figure for so old game it shouldn't matter, it can run pretty high req games, up to DDO and UT2004...

Heres the specs:
Compaq evo n800v
Windows xp sp2
pentium4 1.6 ghz (not multi-core)
500 mb ram
mobility radeon 7500 32 mb ram
Soundmax digital audio (not sure about that)
10 mb/s lan connection, local provider

If theres some incompabilities or fixes with this hardware, I would be happy to know them. So far i havent been able to get out of the character creation screen, its so bad.

You definitely have some older hardware. I would recommend hitting <alt+o> to bring up the options in game, and turning your spell opacity down, your clip plane down, perhaps turning the sky off, and then issuing the /shownames 1 command. See if any of that helps.

Your RAM is probably the cause. You'll need to have everything turned off pretty much. Back when I had a clunker running EQ I found that running the majority of the game in bird's eye view helped the FPS. But getting some more RAM would certainly be a good and inexpensive start.

Ummm...as i was saying, i can run Shards of Dalaya with everything on max, and for so old game it would be redicilious to need more hardware...I was expecting it to be some incompability.

This is definitely your problem. I think I may have had to upgraded beyond this to play when luclin came out.

It is definetly not. You are telling me i need 1 gig ram to play game made in 1997? Probably even the goverment supercomputers didnt have that much back then. Luclin comes out at 2001 I believe, at this year the most powerful geforce 3 videocard has only 64 mb vram.

Touche. That will teach me to go by my obviously failing memory and not research something prior to responding.

Actually i have titanium, which comes with luclin and 5 cd's, i dont think i can chooze what to install. Shards of Dalaya messed something with the files, possibly disabling luclin textures. Is there way to disable these textures in eqemu? I dont mean the advanced character models. Just to try, if theres no other solution.

MiRo2 07-14-2011 09:10 AM

From what I've read, titanium came with the low res textures, the only way you would have the higher res versions is if you downloaded them. You're not using the same EQ directory you used for SoD are you?

No, I uninstalled SOD and installed everquest again. Maybe il try duxa's installer sometime later...
