Wasted (disappearing) special abilities in combat
 

At a certain range, often very close, abilities like bash, kick, backstab, harm touch etc will be expended without actually activating. There is no miss message, no out of range message, the ability is just wasted/lost. This happens in pvp and pve, but is the worst in pvp when players appear to be next to you, but supposedly aren't.

The worst of these skills are obviously those on long cool downs like Lay Hands or Harm Touch, when the skill is expended, nothing happens, and has a 1 hour cool down. The ability should work or say, out of range, missed, resisted etc. It doesn't.

I've had this happen thousands of times with bash and backstab where a normal melee auto-attack will go off and while simultaneously bashing/backstabbing, the ability will not. The bug seems to be most prominent on moving targets like fleeing mobs or players, and happens even while right on top of the player or mob. Perhaps the range needs to be looked into in conjunction with fixing the messages and preventing the expenditure of abilities that should not be wasted just because the target is out of range (harm touch, lay hands, etc).

they need to add a check to see if the ability worked. and if not, don't mark the skill as "used".

Lay Hands / Harmtouch.. damn. Yeah if it doesn't fire, it doesn't get used.

Bash/kick/backstab, you should get a target is too far away message and ability used.

You should come play on Blue, this sort of rubbish doesn't happen.
