What basically got me motivated enough to play Wow vanilla on a fresh server (besides modern MMOs being stale and rehashed same ole, without most of the things that made the originals fun) was playing DOTA2 for a month or so and having fun. Having fun but after a while realising that you spend 30-40mins building up your toon, gearing up then spend 10mins crushing the adversary or vice versa, then you gotta start all over again.
It was fun for a month but i was itching for that working for a toon and then being able to enjoy him as long as you want afterwards. Since nothing else fun to play, like literally 50 games sitting on my hard drive, DOTA2 being the only one that got me hooked in a little bit, WoW vanilla's gonna be my winter 2017 game.
