This is actually how I heard about Everquest...
Used to play an online game called Utopia (
http://utopia-game.com) that was akin to a text-only Master of Magic but Kingdom based--12 or 24 people made up a Kingdom, I can't remember. Anyways, someone posted a delicious F&R quality link about some monk robbing corpses after a botched Naggy raid. Sounded incredibly painful and fun, and so the rest is history.
...I wonder if people still actually play that damn game.
