Default Mac OSX Yosemite Easy Install

The really simple install guide for Yosemite.

1. Get wine (uses homebrew)
brew install wine
brew install winetricks

2. Configure wine
winetricks d3dx9 corefonts
winetricks glsl=disabled
cd .wine
cd drive_c

3. Transfer EverQuest
Copy your windows EverQuest directory here. You should have already installed the ISO's in a windows environment.

4. Configure for Project 1999
cd EverQuest
curl http://www.project1999.com/files/P99Files36.zip
unzip -o P99Files36.zip
rm arena.eqg
rm arena_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
rm lavastorm.eqg
rm nektulos.eqg
rm Nektulos_EnvironmentEmitters.txt

5. Configure for your screen
EQ crashes when it tries to switch to fullscreen on a Mac.

Run winecfg and turn on virtual desktop under the graphics tab. Make the size something a little smaller than your current resolution. Mine was 1400x800 for a Retina running at 1440x900.

--- Done ---

When you are in the EverQuest directory (.wine/drive_c/EverQuest) start the game with

wine eqgame.exe patchme

Environment
Macbook Pro Retina 2013
Tested on wine-1.6.2 stable from latest homebrew
Using EQ Titantium from Amazon Distribution

Notes
- EQ Titanium was installed under VMware Windows 8.1 then the files copied across.
- P99Files36.zip comes from the Getting Started Guide on the home page. Check that is still the latest version.
- Homebrew compiles wine for your platform, it takes a while.
- The author uses homebrew.

Why
After reading all the instructions, having shit not working, I was finally able to distill it all down to this. No Winebottles, Crossover, etc etc etc just straight simple wine with the correct settings. You can build your bottles etc from the information contain above. Feel free to post links to suitably configured containers for ease of use. I hardly use wine so making this work was a four hour journey through a myriad of pain I didnt need. Hope it saves you some time.

Feel free to post your success or issues and I will help with what I can.

If you don't have Homebrew here is what you need to install it.

Apple Xcode Command Line tools.
Open a terminal session and enter the command gcc and press enter. If you dont have it, it will prompt you to install them. Choose the Install option.

XQuartz.
Go to http://xquartz.macosforge.org/ and install the dmg file listed there.

Then run the install command on the homebrew page http://brew.sh

If you use Macports these are the equivalent commands.

sudo port install wine
sudo port install winetricks
