Have you studied this extensively Lron and katrik or are simply going by the DSM?
There isn't enough evidence to conclusively claim that it's a mental illness so I'm wondering how you came to that conclusion.

Lron, you suggested that transgendered people go into therapy to solve the problem. What sort of therapy? What do you think the cause(s) for this illness is and how would this problem be resolved? Delve into this my good man, delve ... deeply.

Its a mental illness because it wouldn't otherwise be covered by some form of medical insurance, private or otherwise.

Also psychiatry/psychology are not sciences ftw. DSM has "Not otherwise specified" for people who need medication to stop picking their noses. Because it hinders their daily routines.

But I bet in certain cultures Thailand? India? Its not classed as a disease.
