It is probably worth mentioning npcs/pets will ignore the race/class fields of an item and will equip anything you give them, apart from no drop items (which they destroy upon trade).
You can even give pets multiple lore items.

Should work, but doesn't.
Perhaps insufficient evidence for classiness has been provided?

I only use my pet gear in dungeons where I know if i accidentally die no ones doing to jack my pet and kill it for my gear (big problem with that) and I usually have a cleric or a dru duo partner. But I give mine Adamantite Band x2, Rusty Spiked Shoulderpads, a Ghoulbane and torch. I hardly get charm breaks and my pet tears other mobs up, especially undead...they just melt(if it does break make sure its a good ways away from you to cast a quick mez before it gets to you). But If I am in a group I just normal charm pets and break them before they die. Only time I use my pet kit is in a trusted, mostly empty dungeon with a duo partner so if anything goes wrong no one will jack my stuff.

Should use color slant at breaks not mez+distance

1) Duel a Druid/Ranger have them ensnare your pet at will. Ensnare lasts ~13 minutes. This works especially well on monsters that you can't mez or stun. You will have to back pet off manually. This will help you manage charm breaks much easier, especially in an indoor zone where you don't have SOW. 2) Color slant/skew right after the mob begins attacking you. 3) Color slant/skew at the perfect range where your stun lands but the mob is out of melee range. This requires practice (a decent amount). Also, know your location indirect pathing can mess up the timing on this. You DO NOT want to get caught missing your stun (out of range). It's better to cast later than earlier when your life depends on it landing. 4) Mez + distance can be an option in areas where you have abundant space.
