I mainly solo PvP, which I'm still trying to figure out in eq2. Most of the time I'll find someone, start attacking and then have 2-3 scouts de-stealth and insta-kill me. The few 1v1's I have found have been fun though.

what people play on beta and what they actually play when it rolls are different.

Factions don't matter for any of the good classes anymore. Brigs can be qey and freep same with swash.

Faction will probably remain how it is due to peoples allegiances they've made in the beta.
