Face off: 57 earth pet vs. 59 necro pet
Inquiring minds want to know - how far apart are these two in terms of tanking/damage etc?

Earth pet utterly destroys necro pet.

^ Even more so when you factor in the DS. Which is as it should be, considering all the extra spells Necros get that Mages lack.

Mage earth pet hits harder and has a lot more hp.
Necro pet has a lower max hit and less hp but 75pt lifetap that fires often. Defensively, both pets will mitigate and avoid similarly. Lifetap will help necro pet require less healing but earth pet has huge hp making it more efficient to complete heal. Head to head? Earth pet is significantly better (as it should be). EoT is capable but inferior in almost every way. The 75hp lifetap is nice but doesn't make up for the lower sustained dps offensively or the massive hp gap defensively.

I really wanted to play a mage but after seeing the 57 earth pet get dominated by a mob in the Hole...made me /sad.

So what is your alternative path of action?

I have a 55 necro and 60 enchanter, just means I'll keep rolling with them. Mage was attractive if their pets could stack up better but after having an enc I think it would be frustrating.

Yeah mage Is actually one of my favorite classes but the pet could be stronger. The mage summon items spells are also geared towards to a low Plat environment (logically). Wish velious would've added some cooler more useful items to the table. On live they can summon nuke wands and stuff like that which I think is great

Just out of curiosity, anyone give some good examples of maybe a couple tough mobs the 57 pet could tank on it's own?
