Game Crashing

Hello there!
I'm popping in here hoping that someone can help me with an issue.
As of late EQ has been crashing for me whenever I try to type in the chatbox in game.
The crash is generally so severe that I need to restart my computer. -_-
This has been going on for nearly a month now with my version of the game, I had logged off a couple weeks back to wait for a patch to see if would resolve the issue but it hasn't.
I hope that someone will be able to help me resolve this problem.
It's never happened before and I do find it quite odd that it would start happening now after the game has been working so well.

Hrm. The only thing I can think of is it's unhappy about your UI for some reason. Try renaming the eqclient.ini file in your EQ directory (just add .old to the end of it or something). It should rebuild the file the next time you launch the game (you'll have to reset a few things like your windows positions and resolution settings).

Beyond that - can you interact with the chatbox with the mouse? I.E. changing the hitmodes filter or creating a new chat window? If you don't click in the chat window, your keyboard input (movement, hotkeys, etc) is ok?

What exactly is the crash condition? Does the game just lock up or does it actually exit to desktop with an error / complain about "not responding"?

I will certainly give that a shot.
I am able to click on the chatbox with the mouse and change the filters for my chatboxes.
It literally locks up, I can still hear the music but the game is completely unresponsive to the point that I have to restart the computer.
It's strange, but it only locks up like that when I start to type in any of the chat boxes.

Resize it. See if that helps.

Alright so I tried changing the client to .old and I also tried changing the resolution and the game still crashes when I try to type anything. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Should I perhaps try reinstalling the game instead?

Yep sounds like you did something critical. Reinstall into a different directory. And drop in your old ini that will give you an idea of it was files or ini.

Hmmm if that's the case I wonder what I did....how odd.
I'll leave an update when I reinstall the game.

did you also try renaming your UI_<charactername>_project1999.ini file?
