Thumbs down In N Out being mythical status irks me

So as I frequent my usual haunts on the internet I occasionally run into people drooling over In N Out and I never understand it. I lived in CA for 20 years and only ate there like 5 times because it sux. Sorry to dissapoint but the truth needs to be said.

It's a $2 burger and the worst fries you'll ever eat. The animal style sauce is basically just ketchup and mayonaise, something that should be standard issue for any burger and definitely doesn't belong on fries.

Five guys burger like 4000x more customizable.

There's a reason In N Out has not reached your state yet even after 60 years.

I went last year while staying in San Jose and can attest to everything r00t has said. It is a decent enough burger for the small change but nothing special. Maybe people just like the idea of a simple menu and "secret" ways you can order stuff. As far as fast food joints go, Culver's makes a better burger.

The off the menu is the animal sauce. Even counting the off menu stuff (which is like, 5 guys gives you a thousand times more options), it really is the simplest menu, only 3 items: burgers, fries, shake.

A lot of people are bad at grilling meat, especially burgers.

Tip: put a dent in the middle of the burger before grilling so it doesn't come out puffy in the middle (and the griller usually smashes it down with a spatula to make it flatter to prevent this, thus losing all the juices in the burger).

Not even exaggerating, 100% the worst fries I've ever had in my entirely life. I'd rather eat soggy pieces of cardboard, which is the taste and texture of their fries. Their only saving grace is they can function as vessels for ketchup.
