Default Level 31 bard song Levitation and flute

My wife recently dinged to level 31 on her bard. I had a bard in EQ classic and told her of the joys of twisting lev and selos while traveling. We then discovered that in p1999 the flute is required for levitation. This is not the way it was in classic.

Anecdotally I ran through Kunark with lev and selos while my drum was equipped in 2001. In order to prove my memories are correct I found the archived website EQ Diva which shows when a flute is required to sing the song. The 19 song Shauri's Sonorous Clouding is clearly marked that a flute is required. The 31 song Agilmente's Aria of Eagles is NOT marked as needing a flute.

Even the comments show that we twisted lev and selos to "fly like a comet".

Please change this to classic EQ.

Here is the link from eqdiva.com: http://web.archive.org/web/200103310....com/songs.asp

Thanks

Concert Hall Apr. 7, 2001 also identifies Aria of Eagles as not requiring a wind instrument. (Songs requiring instruments are in red italics).

EQSongs Dec. 6, 2000 archive also does not identify Aria of Eagles as requiring an instrument to play, songs requiring instruments are denoted with an * by the song type.

Great another clue that I am correct. Thanks for researching this.

Looks like some one in April 2010 made a one line post saying it should require a wind instrument with no supporting evidence and the change was made in August 2010.

Another report mentioned it requiring an instrument in November 2010 and bumped in 2012, but no discussion or evidence to the contrary was presented.

That's what I saw too. Someone decided it needed a flute and it was implemented w/out further comments.

Many of the instruments songs claim to use don't actually have an increased effect when using that instrument. Levitate, for instance, works no better with a flute, nor does water breathing. You can use these songs to train the skill, but there's no need to use the instruments otherwise.

Bump. The ONLY wind song that REQUIRED an instrument was invisibility. I remember from live having to keep extras in the bank to invis up for corpse runs. It still works this way on live now, although with gear that has inst. mods and not being naked after death, it doesn't matter.

Water breathing and lev never HAD to have an instrument, they just worked like normal bard songs where you got singing skill if you didn't play them with a wind instrument and wind skill if you had an instrument equipped.

This is actually ingrained in my synapsis to the point that every time I ran into a gap or hill while traveling, my thought process would go, "Chasm, break out lev song to twist with selo's. Wait! I'm too low level for lev song, damn!" and now that my bard is above level 31, it goes, "Chasm, break out lev song to twist with selo's. Wait! If i do this, I HAVE TO have a flute so I can either instrument swap or run at singing speed. g^& damn who's the idiot who took some moron's word that it NEEDED a flute and broke the f&^%n code?! $#$%^&%$^*@#@#$#%$^%$#"

Seriously, please fix, it's killing me!
