Default South Ro sand giants fighting dark elf merchants

Ran across this in South Ro earlier today: sand giant fighting with two of the dark elf merchants (Smith Tv'yasa and one of the other two). None of them were charmed, so one side must have attacked the other -- I didn't see how it started. I never spent much time in South Ro in original EQ, but it seems very strange for either merchants to attack another NPC, or for an NPC to attack merchants.

This has been going on ages... The three Dark Elf merchants don't like Sand Giants or AC in SRO and will attack and kill them.

Yeah, but are they supposed to? Or is it a bug that they do so?

That was fixed to where those mobs attacked each other, I don't remember much about SGs vs. merchants. Seems like South Ro is a hotbed of angry fighters.

The merchants attack the Sand Giant cause they are pissed off that the Sand Giant spawned and the Ancient Cyclops didn't to drop the ring...

Not sure why nilbog didn't move this to resolved, a cursory googling indicates that this is a classic mechanic.

This is a great levelling mechanic, you make a giant and merchant fight each other, root the merchant when the giant runs, mem blur away the attributed damage and finish of the mob. It's like charming without the charm. very low mana cost xp!
