Everyone trusts it because p99 is actually a legit non profit and its run by mature adults. Its not some russian basement dweller.

The sticky is more like cable news, an answer for the masses. This guy wanted a little more rundown on it as it tends to happen with skeptics. The thread you linked is a half right though, most header/process scanners/checksum features will not test positive in an anti-virus as long as its part of a legitimate program. SOE used to have a scanner back in 99-2001ish but it lasted maybe a few weeks before people asked them to shut it down, they sent out a press release that they were removing it. My point being, SOE's scanner never tested positive. But I'll agree to disagree on it being a misflagging. No reason to trash good software as a part of towing the company line, no offense to anyone intended.

The OP wasn't a matter of trusting P99 or not, just to clarify - he thought his dsetup.dll was legitimately infected by some kind of virus, and was wondering if he could just do away with the file altogether. He didn't think like, P99 *put* the virus there maliciously or something.
