Default McGregor defeats Aldo in 13 Seconds

Congrats McGregor! Beautiful counter. Would have liked to see it go a couple rounds but that is how it goes sometimes. Hopefully a rematch as he was undefeated for years and on an 18 fight win streak IIRC.

Hail Gaunja, long time no see.

What I'm always curious about is why there is no penalty for smashing a dude's face after you've obviously KO'd him. Not only in this instance; in almost every fight theres a KO, the victor always gets another bash or two to the unconscious face of their victim. I know it's heat of the moment but it still feels unsportsmanlike.

Hey Shrub!

In the heat of the moment, it's hard to tell if you completely put a guy out or not. Sometimes it's completely obvious and there are unnecessary shots without a doubt. Other times it's not so obvious and there are maybe one or two before the winner backs off.

A lot of times you will see a KO and the winner doesn't follow up at all (See Marquardt vs Maia for a good example). It really depends on the situation. It is combat sports though and it's just the nature of the beast.

Also as much as the follow up punches can solidify the win, it can also make the person "wake up" if it was just a flash KO. It's almost like a double edged sword. Some of the best strikers usually know when to back off so they don't wake their opponent from a flash KO, and halting the ref from stopping the fight. The craziest example of this is Cheick Kongo vs Pat Berry. Kongo was flash KO'd probably 2-3x, but woke up by the next punch that followed. The ref nearly stopped the fight several times. Another example recently (last Thursday) is Chad Mendes vs Frankie Edgar. Mendes was flash ko'd, hit with another punch and completely awake, but unaware of what happened.

The fight isn't over until the ref stops it, plain and simple.

The only thing that irks me about this is that this was a flash KO, dude hasn't lost in 10 years, but he likely won't be getting an immediate rematch. But "Cardio" Cain losing at high altitude in a 1 sided beat down and choked out in the 3rd round = instant rematch, Ronda Rousey getting schooled and finished in the 2nd round = instant rematch.

Fuck the UFC

Nice KO though - But this is the MMA equivalent of Trump becoming president of the United States. MMA message boards are unbearable at the moment
