Pathing SoldungA Lava Elemental Warping on flee?

I was fighting Lava Elemental in SoldungA near the column of lava.

When it fled it jumped in this column and disappeared. I tried following it but couldn't find any tunnel so resolved that I would just wait for it to regen back to fighting health and come back to me at which point I would kill it.

Can anyone confirm if there is a path the mob would take from the lava column near it's spawn or was this a genuine incident of a mob warping?

Aren't there several fake walls/tunnels near there which the mob can go through?

yea there are fake walls, but he jumped into the lava column and disappeared. Definitely didn't path thru a fake wall.

ah nevermind, I found the lava tunnel thru which he must have fled.
