Regarding the patch and torched pets

no it seems that torches were triggereing dual weild on EVERY SWING. whereas normal weapons only gave it a random chance, like it should. Another thought is that they hit closer to max damage more often with a torch than with weapons.

Based on the logs in this thread (thanks Sesserdrix) I think we can safely say that point #2 is proven.

I'd like to see further testing on point #3. You've proven that a high delay weapon will not slow the pet attack rate, but I'd like to prove the inverse as well. I've heard from multiple sources that low delay weapons ala FS Daggers would help increase pet attack rates on live, but I've heard conflicting reports about this mechanic on P99.

Low level summoned pets will not dual wield, even when given 2 weapons.

Higher level summoned pets will dual wield, without the need for 2 weapons.

Giving a summoned pet a low delay weapon will not increase the speed of it's attacks.

Giving a summoned pet an extraordinarily high damage will increase it's damage, but this becomes harder to do as you level up and your pet's natural damage goes up.

Giving a summoned pet 2 weapons is a waste of time unless they are very high damage or have a proc, as it will not affect their ability to dual wield.

Charmed pets, regardless of level, will not dual wield unless given 2 weapons.

I'm testing with dual daggers.

One thing still really confuses me. In the logs where my pet had the 2h Rusty Greatsword, he was "hitting". Not "kicking", not "bashing". He was "slashing" with the sword, but also hitting. In the logs you linked to (which I forgot I posted here):

Now that we see the logs, the question is, how do we quantify the speed? Originally, I did it by adding up total attacks attempted, divided by the time. But there was such a wide range of values due to proc chance on double strikes, and dual wield strikes, that it was unusable. Dual daggers showed that it slowed a pet's attack speed, which we know is not the case from my previous post on the subject.

So instead, lets cut out Double Strike procs. Instead of going for attacks per second, lets look at average seconds between unique actions. So, I removed all the kicks and bashes from these logs, and then will go from second to second quantifying the difference between actions. Averaging them together should give us the average weapon delay, unhindered by double strikes, since two attacks in the same second are seen as "one action".

So the difference? 2.375 unarmed vs 2.3636 with dual daggers. A difference of 0.0114. Somehow I feel this difference is so minor that it is insignificant, and completely meaningless. It likely came about because of the fact that the daggers test had 22 actions versus the unarmed having 16, so it was more accurate.

In conclusion, it appears to me that low delay weapons do NOT speed up pet attacks, just as high delay weapons do NOT slow down pet attacks.

On live you could give necro pets 2 one hand weapons and it would lower the delay of the pet however, the 2 weapons could *not* have the same delay for it to work. It was very op and nerfed around the same time the mage proc swords were nerfed.

I think the standard was 1 FS dagger 19dly and 1 summoned or rusty maybe @ 20dly. That plus pet buff was carnage. It must be nerfed here or else ppl would know, there has to be a lot of classic necros here that tried it by now. Unless we are thinking patch maybe enabled this action.

On a live retail server, both pre and post Kunark, a magician without a focus item could give their level 24 pet two weapons like a dagger and a club and they would see the pet both piercing and crushing in the damage scroll IF it was not the lowest level summoned pet.

If the Magician had a focus item and they summoned their highest level possible 20 pet, it would dual wield with the same example above, piercing and crushing in the damage scroll.

I recall no need to give a magician pet a set of weapons for the level 39 summon on. It would dual wield innately. The very highest summoned 34 with a focus item would do this as well. If it's not currently working like this, something is broken.
