i honestly barely even understand the sentiment of 'exp penalty' woe is me.

You are only under the direct effect of the exp penalty when you are soloing. So, if you're soloing, I totally feel you.

However, when in the group, the penalties/bonuses get normalized over everyone. Yes, you would be leveling faster if you weren't an iksar, but so would everyone else in your group.
