Default Pod of Seawater from Faydedar

Was the pod of seawater drop from Faydedar (untriggered) a guaranteed drop? I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything that said one way or another. At present on p99 it is not 100%.

I've done some looking into this, just doing date specific searches and using the way back machine and here's what I pulled up if any of it can be helpful. Sorry if this is all a mess.

First, establishing our era to pull relevant info from:
Epics released September 19, 2000 http://everquest.allakhazam.com/hist...es-2000-2.html

"The first Druid epic (1.0) was obtained on the Mithanial Marr server by Sobe Silvertree of the guild Afterlife."
Wednesday November 15, 2000 (just weeks before velious came out)
http://www.afterlifeguild.org/templa...ndex_jun_dec00

March 14, 2001 3:00 am
"As part of the Plane updates, we've made several adjustments to Epic
quests for a number of classes."

So basically, there's a window of September 19th 2000 to March 14th 2001 to search for any mention of the pod of seawater or how often fay dropped it. (would they have changed the regular fay after adding the triggered one?)

Now here's a somewhat messy jumble of EVERY single link I could find in that window referencing Faydedar/pod of seawater

http://web.archive.org/web/200104211....shtml?id=4470
- beastiary reference on fay, mentions pod dropping during gm event, etc

http://www.100megsfree.com/ktcrhp/hints/druid.html
http://www.legacyofsteel.net/Archives/Post/2000-11-20
http://thedruidpages.tripod.com/Ques...epic_quest.htm
- era relevant epic guides and a post from a guild page

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q...-C-7RwA8gyGc3g
- some essay or whatever. skip to page 9 "the epic quest" for fay. kinda boring.

Basically, these links all mention the pod dropping 100% or otherwise suggest that a druid would just have to get a raid for fay and that was that, no multiple attempts. The only difficulty was getting fay before it got killed by the iksar master an hour or 90min or so after it popped (taken from later but less relevant links).

I recall Faydedar always dropping the pod of seawater but couldn't really find any info one way or another. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't drop 100% of the time unless evidence is presented otherwise.

I've been trying to research this on and off, but I am having difficultly finding anything pre-revamp Faydedar. It is a shame that eqdruids and The Druids Grove didn't maintain archives of the 1999-2000 time period.

This is purely anecdotal, but from my recollection the epic guides at the time just said wait for Faydedar and kite him until you can get a raid force in TD to kill him (to prevent him from pathing into the Iksar Master). I personally sat a level 1 character on the spires while I xp'd on raptors and waited for the toon to get eaten. I then proceeded to kite Faydedar for 2+ hours while I got a raid force over to TD, and he dropped the pod.

Bumping this thread because right now Fay is on a cold streak of 1 pod in the last 2 months. of the last 8 Fay kills, FE has 6 and TMO has 2, the only pod dropping for TMO on 1/13. While I understand that this is just a string of really bad luck with random numbers, and that over a long period of time it is bound to happen, it is just too annoying to not post about it. Especially since I have heard of fay dropping two pods at once on p99 and recently he dropped two frost books, which was pretty funny in an ironic sense.

So from what Zapatos posted, September 19th 2000 to March 14th 2001 is the window for relevant info.

This link http://web.archive.org/web/200012032....shtml?id=4470 makes mention of fay dropping pods at the Halloween gm event. Most other posts that talk about fay's loot are from before Sept 14, and so they do not make mention of the pod.

The other three links about how to get a druid epic from above
http://www.100megsfree.com/ktcrhp/hints/druid.html
http://www.legacyofsteel.net/Archives/Post/2000-11-20
http://thedruidpages.tripod.com/Ques...epic_quest.htm
all mention just going and killing Fay. I only see a date for the middle link, but that one at least fits the timeline.

At first this link seems promising http://thedruidsgrove.org/archive/eq/t-13210.html (nov, 2000) until he mentions being lvl 70 and VS remains, so it was clearly edited later. but I think some of the replies to this post are unchanged because they talk about how hard fay is to simply find up (after the revamp, he was trigger-able, and thus not hard to find, only 'hard' to kill). another post very soon after the revamp also urges the OP to talk about spawning fay wtih the froglok esscense, so we can assume the OP was edited. These comments below I believe to be unedited and relevant:

Its not really that hard...
One of the easiest really. Cept for Faydedar, cause of his spawn situation and zone he is in.

Believe me, I work 40 hours a week, even on weekends. Most of the mobs I camped during the week at my free days.

If you are in an Uberguild the only hard thing to get is Faydedar. The rest is cake and only a question of time if u have someone that can come fast to help you for a few parts.

What is really interesting is that searching for "pod" in all of these links yields almost no results. that is because, imo, killing fay was equivalent to getting a pod. if the pod was not a 100% drop, people would have mentioned "kill fay and hope for a pod" or "i killed fay twice before i got my pod" or "i killed fay but where is my pod?!?!?!", etc.

another long post from the most recent link..

I write this summary in the hopes that it will aid you in your fight with
Faydedar. I do not claim that this is the only way to battle him. I do
hope that my advice will help improve your odds of being successful when he
finally does spawn. I would also like to thank those that have done such notable work in the initial research of our epic quest.

I have been involved with four fights with the elusive Faydedar, and this is
a compellation of what I have learned in those encounters. If you have not
yet printed yourself a map of Timorous Deep I strongly recommend you do
before going any farther. Next, I recommend that you have an "assister"
available who can help you on short notice. This person can be a fellow
druid, a bard or a ranger.

.....

There it is. I believe I've covered everything, though I'm sure someone
will add to this. I personally sat at the spires for 308 hours waiting for Faydedar. In all, I spent 418 hours before I was finally able to complete the druid epic quest, and receive my epic weapon. I have read others that completed it in a few days (cough), but would suggest that you can expect to spend some 'epic' time to complete this, probably
around 200 hours.

May Tunare guide you in your journey,

Thanks for the great info Haro. I just got Faydedar tonight !

PS: bump : p
Again he says he got fay tonight, not "i got my pod tonight".

The last point I want to make is that the druid epic quest involves many drops from corrupted mobs, with Fay being the hardest, most epic one to kill. ALL of the other corrupted mobs drop their loot 100% of the time. It would seem natural that Fay does the same. This isn't the best argument because all the other mobs a) are called Corrupted XYZ and b) all the corrupted spawn from killing a Tainted XYZ not always with a 100% chance of spawning.

Anyway, this is my argument that Fay should drop his pod 100% of the time, or at least more often than once in two months. Comments? Questions? Other research? thanks.
