I don't believe SBS was 3k during Kunark. FBSS I recall being 5-7k on my server during Luclin, even. Prices here aren't so bad and have only been getting better since IB left.

You guys realize there was duping on Live too, right? Duping isn't as rampant as you guys make it out to be. The most likely explanation for high prices is (a) more plat in circulation from players farming seafuries and similar camps, and (b) guilds monopolizing raid content leading to certain items being ridiculously overpriced (since they can basically set what the "fair" price is).

The biggest factors to the high price of high-end items on this server:
  • High average player level
  • Slow progression
  • Increased game knowledge

They combine to allow the high level players to farm immense amounts of raw PP (and items) while item power decreases slower due to the slow progression schedule. When raw PP on the server increases, but the items to spend it on stay stagnate for long periods, you get inflation. There are also virtually zero raw PP dumps on this server to take money out of the economy (no casino, no high priced mounts, etc).

The good news is that this makes the mid-tier items undervalued! Because everyone has the best, no one needs the mid-tier. The L30s quest armor is undervalued, hybrid Kunark armor is undervalued, mid-grade weapons are undervalued because the market is that much smaller. Yes, you are going to have to pay for BIS, but 80% of BIS is not 80% of the price, and should work for most players.

The economy is not fucked up, it's just different. Everything is comparatively expensive, so you can sell items for more as well. It generally evens out. It's less lucrative to farm cash, but considering how badly the game's solo spots have been overcamped throughout the history of the server, I don't think it's such a bad thing that people are discouraged from taking up leveling spots. There was a time when you had to wait in line for anything profitable, and you just couldn't level on stuff like hill giants because it would be camped by level 50+ players 24/7. As the economy shifted towards very high prices, farming actual money became a little less effective, and most of the high-end Kunark loot takes a group to camp. Thus, players are encouraged to group more and this helps a lot with such a small playerbase. Before Kunark, almost everything could be camped solo or duo, and the only ones with money were the enchanters, necros, magicians etc. It may cost you 10k for an FBSS, but you can also sell the items you find for more.

The smaller, more knowledgeable player base also means that a lot of the exp/loot camps are combined, whereas on live it was not uncommon to find 60-80 or even 100 in SolB, LGuk, KC, or Seb during primetime. The exp/loot camps were completely diluted among all those players on live. Here you can roll in to these places and camp pretty much what you want, when you want.

Places like High Keep on live were camped by 3 distinct groups, here one group kills all the goblins (when there is actually a group there now days). On my live server GIBs were their own camp in LGuk for a group of six. Disco 1 and Disco 2 were split for two groups on live. Crypt and Emp were distinct camps. Upper zone out, lower zone out (not king), and entry hall were each exp camps in Seb.

Here on P99, these camps are combined and usually still not enough so groups branch out and pull other camps to compensate.

A group I was in in Seb the other day was pulling disco 1, 2, the lab, pickler and the scarab. I am sure that was more than one camp back in the day. People just do things differently / more efficiently now.

Every server had different prices back on live. P999 is on par with my old server tribunal. Everything is worth about the same and the value of items are decreasing at the same rate as my old server. There was duping on live and hacking on live also, it's impossible stop it completely. On live you could double box and here you can't which in long run is helping the economy. Overall the economy on here is very healthy. Just takes a little work to make money any one can do it if they research and invest the time

Welcome to the server!

Don't worry about the prices, it's just normal mudflation. If you play the game normally, you'll be fine and eventually transition from the Have Nots to the Haves.

Hacked plat can still happen today probably, think of all the people who sell plat online, RL money for plat online.
