People would actually research a lot more, if their research efforts actually got implemented often; but that doesn't happen. Look at the mage pet tanking and aggro forum post in the bug section. It's been over 3 years since the original post and it still hasn't been fixed even though Nilbog agreed that it wasn't correct.

BAM! MS series is so fun...but worthless otherwise. If P99 staff implemented the Luclin buff to them....all hell would break loose.

This thread has got me excited to level up my 24 magician to 34 and summon monsters.

There isn't a focus for monsters though, right?

Summon Monster is always super, super fun to impress new or unknowing players..

yeah earth pets hardly even root on this server. it used to be perma root except when nukes broke it.. here? nada. really sad the p99 dev's hate mages.. they already have it hard enough.

That was one of the depressing things I noticed about the Earth mage pet on the server. That pet on old retail would ALWAYS cast root as its first action if it was off of cooldown, and would be summoned with it prepped and ready as its first action available if told to attack. While mages don't get any crowd control options, it could be used as a ghetto method for breaking certain camps (making spider nets unnecessary for that use).

Here, nope. The other issue I have with pet classes in general is how often NPC mobs hit for max damage in comparison to retail. Pets largely don't feel as robust in comparison to Kunark / Velious era in taking camps on.
