not exaggerating, they weren't as girthy as the gar you posted. the faces on this one is more like the missouri gar, but he's just a little guy.

lake of the ozarks was where we were catching them
not saying it's impossible or flat out lie.

I just don't believe you jugged up several or even more than 1 at 6-8ft each. Those are nice sized Alligator gar and they tend to roam solo. Makes it hard to imagine anyone jugging an area and hooking more than one of that size.

I've caught some on my line (using a rod/reel) and had to have a steel leader to keep them from just cutting my line on their teeth. I've never had one on a jug, but i'd imagine you'd need a steel leader line on them too. Seeing as how most catfish never break normal line it would seem odd to see someone using steel leaders for catfish.

p.s. I've never caught a Gar as large as the one I posted, I've been wanting to go to Texas to bow fish for one for quite awhile tho.

I've used 80lb test, braided line, and never had a catfish brake it and i've gotten some monsters on jugs before. It is really hard for a fish to snap a line on a jug, unless he gets it wrapped around something (in which case you won't get the jug back to the top anyhow).

true. it was snooze though because every jug was either empty or had a gar on the end. i napped while they set out another run (which was similar to the first[You must be logged in to view images. i'm not much of a fisher tbh. i can barely tie a hook onto my line. but i bait my own hooks [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
