Default Brand New Player, Best Purchase for 100 Plat

I haven't been in EC much since Velious, so I don't know what the best bang for the plat items are anymore. For Melee, obviously, the best plat to game winning ratio comes from weapons, so what are the best weapons to get for 100 plat for each melee class?

For casters, of course, the best investment is in spells, but pretending all of the spells are paid for, what's the best thing to buy for 100 plat, both priests and casters.

Ideas?

Crystal Grinder is super cheap and pretty decent ratio for casters

Smoldering Brand also awesome at low levels, but may need to spend up to 150pp

Https://wiki.project1999.com/Spyglass for casters without a doubt.

Absolutely essential (unless you have another clicky that doesn't do the annoying zoom effect).

All this time I've been using clickies for global cool down and not once thought to recommend to a new caster to buy a spyglass. This is a great suggestion and I feel stupid.

make friends, and more importantly if you want to go somewhere - make the group yourself and convince people to join you. Get the core classes first. If you give them the options people are actually generally very receptive to levelling off the beaten path
