Hidy Ho and Howdy Do!

Everquest was the first graphical MMORPG I played. I grew up using the text based library computers to play MUDs before moving into a place where I had internet at home. I ended up swapping from EQ to Ultima Online since I was aware of private UO servers at the time, and couldn't afford the subscription to EQ.

Anyhow, I was very excited to stumble upon a p1999 youtube video - to see there was an active community still playing the game.

I won't probably recall much (other than some tunnel near the dark elf starting zone?) and some random tidbits here and there. Are there third party applications that folks would recommend? I saw something about map packs, for example.

I am interested in finding a community to play with, so any recommendations there would be welcomed.

I'm struggling at the moment to settle on a class.
I'm tempted to try leveling a dark elf necro but I recall having issues when I rolled that years ago. Granted, I never progressed very far back then anyhow.

I'm sort of between a wiz and druid.

I play a mix of hours. Summer is very open to me as I've been studying information security during the 'normal' school year. I'm 32, but I hitch hiked 9 years during my 20's - so I didn't buckle down with school until recently.

I am a night owl as well, so definitely will be playing afternoon/evening/overnight PST.
