We will spend upwards of 40 times as much as we do in Afghanistan, to maintain a presence in south Korea.

Don't go blaming us for their unwillingness to build themselves a country. At some point they have to stand on their own legs. They've had 20 years to do it and plenty of assistance. They have the country they want.

I don't like our forever-presence in South Korea either. North Korea is an impoverished weakling and the South can take care of themselves. I figure most of the reason for our presence there is to maintain proximity to China.

Im an authoritarian, I think that police exist to keep people free, and it worked for 20 years in the worst imaginable environment for a fraction of the cost that we spend on military in peaceful countries.

It works just like that in the USA too:
