Default Best starting class for a player that hasn't played eq

Yo a buddy of mine might be giving eq a try. What would be a good class for him to start for someone who has never played? Also he doesn't have any mmo xp other than guild wars, thanks

Necro, mage, or wizard. A class you can suck at and no one will notice.

I would recommend a caster, since melee's are typically boring at low levels. Auto attack and wait.
With casters you're at least pressing a button to do damage.
But then yet again, the downtime with mana may be boring.

I started a friend on a necro who had only played Warhammer Online and he's now 57. Necros and mages kind of hurt now because of the pets generally taking half the exp, but if you duo with him I think this penalty gets negated.

Yeah, melee classes with crap gear pretty much suck. I know a Mage has been pet nerfed to hell, but they still level pretty fast, and are super easy to play as a noob.

Druid will proabaly work also. If you go with a Mage use the Fire Pet most of the time. A Necro is the best class in the game. You can play one to level 50 naked and do well. But they are a evil class and do require a bit of skill. But everyone was a noob at one time in this game. Play what you would like. It is suppose to be fun.

A druid was super easy for me to get a hang of, when I was a total newbie with no MMO experience.

If you group with him and give him some help, it shouldn't be to hard at all.
