P1999 server concurrent user limit?

I am just curious- Does the server have a hard cap of how many concurrent users can be on (like the old eq hardware did before the big upgrades)? I noticed my ping jumps from about 32ms with about 400 ish to >600ms during peak hours when theres closer to 750 users.

What is the highest number of concurrent users to date?
