Default CC - Group vs Raid Game

Hi all, been enjoying my wizard for a while (I used to play a bard & chanter back in EQ Live and loved the challenge that came with it) but realized that my wizard is... well... pretty skillless. I just sit there, wait for the tank to build sufficient threat (root park if needed) and then blast it a few times to med again. It's really starting to bore me.

Are there not enough chanters in particular (CC) for the group game, and too many for the raid environment? I always see people looking for CC for grouping but always hear as the popular opinion that there are already too many chanters.

Whats the deal?

chanters tend to go and solo alot, and there are very few wizards

if you are getting bored and WANT to be cc, then bard or chanter is probablly where you are needing to go

otherwise, stick it out. wizards are a definate rarity, be great to see a few more

There are many high end chanters but the influx of new chanters has dropped significantly since some of our abilities have been nerfed a bit.

It started way back with Whirl-till-you Hurl and most recently with the changes to charm mechanics on the server.

(On the flip side we did have our alliance spell line fixed as well as some faction adjustments with Illusions but that's another story.)

Lots of us just log on our chanters for raids and are working on alts.
I figure once I have a second character at level 50 I can just use my main when we're short on CC.

I've definitely noticed way less low level chanters recently than in the past but I think that will all ebb and flow as more people start rolling alts. The threads about server class distribution help too.

Unless its really boring you to death, i'd say stick with the wizard. The high end DPS is pretty nasty, and Kunark/Velious they will get better. I thought I read somewhere that AE snare is in the game (even though its supposedly shouldn't be?) Maybe try your luck quad kiting, might be a bit more exciting.

And also what was posted above, there is a pretty good lack of wizards. It's kind of funny when we are going up to hate and 1 wizard has to port up 3+ groups.

If they're not camped, which is pretty rare. Honestly, I don't really recall too many good quad-kiting areas in classic- most of the best are in Kunark and Velious- or even later expansions.

I am looking at it from a druid perspective, so it may be a bit different- plus, Kunark was already out by the time I was of a level to quad, so that may have something to do with it.

As far as not enough enchanters for groups, I'm not seeing it. Maybe it's different at higher levels, but I've seen lots of other enchanters oocing for groups, and even been in several groups with two enchanters. Hopefully that will change a bit once I hit clarity (2 more bubs!)

i see alot of lowbie chanters 20-40 always lfg, there seems to be a recent influx of them as of late.

end game raiding? chanters dont stack well most of the bigger guilds here are full on chanters

bards... there are like non here, usually there are less thatn 9 online at anytime, and this server has over 600 people during prime time

i say stick it out with the wizard or if you wanna be raid heavy, bards always have a raid spot, even more so than a tank or cleric, its crazy

then again wizards on this server are in HIGH demend end game
