Default Playing with the idea of rolling a ranger

I didn't like my monk, just doesnt fit with me.

I liked bard, but over long periods of time it got tedious in xp groups having to do so much.

Was thinking about ranger. I realize their damage isn't as high as rogue/monk.

So my question is, when well geared (fungi, woodsman, etc), can they put out decent dps at the least, and can they semi-solo?

I know they're pretty middle of the road, but if they have utility that makes up for it, I could live with that.

Any melee with a fungi can solo through the 40s to low 50s. Rangers will do it better than rogues warriors or Knights, but worse than monks or bards. Of all the melee, monks will solo the best with fd, mend, solid dps, and damage intake (mitigation/avoidance) comparable to warriors.

Rangers are a fun and capable class. They will not take damage or deal damage as well as a monk, but they are fun and have a nice book of spells to complement their melee swings.

A ranger twinked to hell will duo very well with a shaman and fit nicely in pretty much any group.

In the open, rangers can be awesome pullers (harmony). I am not sure if panic animal is already ranger-usable (should be since velious is out), if yes, rangers can with snare/fear rape animals pretty well as a solo strategy (level 22 up)

Panic animal is not in yet no. Rangers solo pretty well regardless, find a zone you like track and kill every blue you see. Ive particularly enjoyed high keep guards from 30-37 so far. Before that I did some dark elf guardians, derv/orc camps etc. Harmony is awesome.

Might not want to be a ranger if you want to slack in groups.

dpsing
pulling
MTing and OTing (sometimes at the same time!)
crowd control which means flame lick + root so enchanters will hate you
buffing
healing

Go through even 40 levels as a ranger and I promise you'll do all the above multiple times. It's very rare to get groups where you're just dps.

He was referring to the tedious volume of work that goes into being a bard.

Rangers even doing multiple jobs in a group aren't in the same league in terms of "busy".

I have basically soloed to 52 on my Ranger currently. I did 1-50 before the xp penalty was removed, so you sohuld fly through levels.

Earthcaller - check
Swiftwind - check
DCoTS - check
Fungi - check

Just get this gear and you too can fly through the levels!
