Newbie, rolled a cleric, looking for advice!
A few months ago I decided to give Everquest a try. Haven't gotten to play much until recently and am loving it. Decided to roll a Cleric because I love supporting others and grouping together to get things done!
But Everquest is hard. It's a challenge. And I'm not sure what goals I should look to set as an aspiring Cleric. At first it was reach level twenty, but with my current work schedule that could be a while. So rather I'm looking for advice on short term goals I can set for myself. Tomorrow I am going to be hitting level 8, and that was really my first goal. What should I work towards next? Are there quests I could seek out for decent items? A certain level that'll allow me to group for things like CB and the like? Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for taking the time out to do so! Happy hunting!

You should definitely be able to find groups in crushbone at level 8. Some good short term goals gearwise would be:
A set of banded mail for about 90pp so you don't die instantly. Alternatively wait for small bronze armor drops from Unrest if your race can wear small size armor. Some cheap wisdom and mana jewelry - +3 wis earrings are pretty cheap, as are moonstone rings. A cheap 1hander with a decent ratio, like a Sharkbone Warhammer (50-100pp). How to get pp for stuff like this: Save bone chips and spider silks to sell to players. Same with crushbone belts/pads. With that list knocked out (should be able to do that by level 20), you can pretty much coast to 50 grabbing upgrades from dungeon drops when possible. Unrest has a few, as does upper guk. All that said, your most important goal is to make friends. On the one hand, every group needs a healer, but on the other hand they only need one. So you'll be able to get rolling a lot faster if you have a few friends you can form a group with instead of waiting around with /lfg on. Edit: if you would prefer more RP/quest- oriented goals, there are a few quests you can do in Crushbone, involving the slaves there I think. Typically the low level quests don't offer great rewards but a lot of them are fun lore- wise. Just look at the page for your starting city on the wiki and check out the "this zone contains the following quests" section

What race? Here are some Crushbone funs to pursue as you level up.
https://wiki.project1999.com/Prayer_cloth_of_tunare nice lil quest in Crusbone. https://wiki.project1999.com/Taskmaster_Earring - gives various useful rewards depending on which route you take. Leather armor, shields, etc. Decent junk items to fill empty/cloth slots. https://wiki.project1999.com/Slave_Keys more FREEEEEEEEEEEEEDOM feels https://wiki.project1999.com/Shiny_Brass_Shield trainer hill drop https://wiki.project1999.com/Dwarven_Ringmail_Tunic from the Orc-Emperor himself!

I forgot to mention I was am an Elf! These are all great suggestions, as I am definetly looking for a more Rp/Quest oriented goals. I joined a guild called Auld Lang Syne for this purpose. This also means I have to get things from quests, drops or from within the guild itself.
These are all wonderful suggestions and have definetly helped me figure out a direction I'd like to take with my Cleric! If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free! And a big thanks again in advanced!

Faydwer is an excellent spot for elves. You can probably even skip banded and pick up small ringmail/bronze in unrest/mistmoore!

That can be quested at level 14 and it'll be quite a while before you'll find an upgrade.

Don't worry about gear too much. It will come to you as you level up. Your guildmates will likely also help you along the way. Look for items with wisdom or +mana on them.
Making friends is probably the best comment here. It's what EQ is all about.
