What the fuck is wrong with Taxi Driver? I saw a dude today in EC named Dezknutz or last night some gnome named Rickjamez who ran around calling everyone bitch. While humorous for a moment it wore out quickly.

And that is why names get nerfed.

1). Inconsistent with the fantasy roleplaying genre.

2). Would have never been allowed on live, which the existence of this project is to emulate.

3). Possible accusations of copyright infringement from Columbia Pictures and the estate of Bernard Herrmann.

And you're right, those other names are equally inappropriate. It's just a matter of catching them.

I don't see anything wrong with people's names as long as they don't turn into screen names like. Rumrunner0968, then that's just way out of hand. People are going to play with whatever name they want, and they should be able to as long as it doesn't offend or harass anyone. Would you like to tell me that everyone who used the name Inkie or Inkiesomethingsomething on live, should've had their name changed? If so, please get off your high horse and come back down to reality.

It's not really my high horse. I'm not the one who was subject to a name change. And I'm not the one complaining about name changes. And as I've said countless times before, if you use even a fraction of common sense when choosing a name, it won't be subjected to change.

Truth = flaming now?

I'm sorry you're so butt hurt over the name change, but it's no one's fault but your own.

You're basically asking everyone who has been caught being a dumbass to brag about it, and complain. It remnds me of people who complain about being arrested for drugs. No matter how stupid you think the law is, it's still the law, and you broke that law.

I don't see his post as a place for people to brag, it appears more as a place for people to list their new name for those who may have been friends with them and were wondering why they don't see them online anymore.

Now I know what Taxi's new name is so I can /tell him sweet nothings for ports.

I'm not trying to make anyone look bad. You do that just fine yourselves.

There's a big difference between trolling and pointing out that none of us are anywhere near as important or cool as we think we are. That's what I do. And many of us are in desperate need of the reminder....

I correct myself, apparently he has given his in game name though not in response to the 5+ times I've asked for it. Good find Phallax.

Madradh, everyone, watch out.

If a name was allowed on Live, where they have a lot more rules regarding acceptable names, then common sense indicates the name should be allowed on P99, where the only rule is "it cannot be offensive".

My name was acceptable on Live. My name was nuked. I am not the only person who had a name on Live that had their name nuked on P99.

This isn't live though, in so many ways. By your logic you should be coughing up a monthly subscription fee and be subject to MUCH stricter community policing.

No, just because no one ever reported you on live / never been seen by GMs on live, does not mean that your name was not against the policy, wich if you had the same name, 100% was against the policy ...

your approach is basicly "oh well, if they dont catch me robbing the bank, its no crime" ... wich is just LOL, dont even want to use the words that pop into my head for this ...

EDIT: and oh, they sayd multiple times now that there is a better wording for the rules in the making, and you probably did not notice:

NOTE: This is an older draft of the rules. When we switched forums somehow the new draft of rules was lost. We apologize for not having them up on the forums. Just something that kind of got forgotten/left behind during the move.

I know my name was acceptable on Live because I petitioned and ASKED them when I created the character. I had been through this sort of hassle before. A character should not have to have twice as many vowels as constants to be "acceptable".

How the heck do you pronounce Uaellaen, anyway? How may syllables is that? Two? Three? Four? Six? Seriously, I have absolutely no idea how you pronounce that atrocity of vowels you consider to be a name. I am offended by your idiocy. QUICK! GUIDE! Change his name for being offensive!

I'm sorry but changing people's names when they are not offensive is just kind of ... well... dumb.

They were left alone in classic for a reason. It was a pointless waste of time to change them, especially after a player already reached certain hallmarks. So they were left alone, unless of course they were grossly offensive. To just change names in mass here because one person complained that they didn't fit their personal role play is ... well... dumb. Pointless would probably be a better word. But yeah I am curious what the new names are, since I will probably see changes for more than a few friends!

I was Veldamirx Iz^Drunk... I had a GM rename me to Veldamirx Iz^Kinki. No one reported is right. The GM's didn't care as much as you think, unless someone reported it. I heard of very few name changes that weren't a result of a blatantly offensive name, or an in game arguement that resulted in petitions being thrown around.

I created my long time main on Test Server in about 2003; named him Ancient, which was intended to be an allusion to Ancient Pistol, a character in Henry V.

I logged in for the first time, and about 20 minutes later a GM told me my name was not allowed and changed it to Anciente (after some discussion). I'm pretty sure that was not the result of a petition, and I'm pretty sure it was not offensive; it just violated the letter of the naming conventions at the time.

So somewhere, sometime - there were GMs who cared (even though I disagreed with them).

Crazy :( I stand corrected... I guess some where Gm's did care... Not on Nameless when I got the name change... lol :/

I think it was probably fairly arbitrary, and in 90% of the cases I think the name changes were fair.
