So I was told I could hot swap my wep and instruments with just normal hot keys like I use for skills etc., but it doesnt seem to be working. Im doing the following, tell me if I am wrong.

I got 3 empty slots in my inventory
Put Lute/Drums in 2, leave the 3rd blank
Click/Drag the inventory slots with the instruments on them to my hotbar
Place on hotkeys bound to #4 and 5.
Take weapon off, press 4 or 5 and nothing happens
Right click the hotkey on 4 and 5, nothing happens.

What am I doin wrong?

Someone in game said to look into a UI, but I am pretty used to my UI. I thought there was a way to do this with just the normal UI?

I just click the inventory slot "hotkeys" that you get from dragging inventory to your action bar. Got drum equipped, horn is in bag slot 7, lute is in bag slot 8, left click lute on action bar, switch it onto drum, it switches in inventory.

As for switching between weapons and instruments, I'd love to know if there's a better way but all I've been able to do is manually unequip primary weapon, left click in inventory onto the instrument I want to use, left click instrument into secondary weapon slot. Which is a real pain in the ass but I've never heard of an actual macro "/weaponswap 1 -> bagslot 8" kind of command that can be utilized

Yeah from what I understand, Id be able to hit like a hotkey bound to Shift-Q or somethin, and bam Lute on, then Shift-E, drums on, then Shift-F, weps back on. But its not working like that I was told =(

That would be a lot nicer than having to click weapon + click lute + click weapon + click bag + bagdrop weapon every time my group wants heal song

I was more of a fan of Duxa's UI and setting the weapon/instrument slots next to open inventory swaps, the clicking and draging was very quick and easy.

This UI is great for being a bard, seriously. It somehow adds in an extra hot key window, not sure you can do that with the standard UI.

As for swapping instruments, you can't press keys to do it. You have to do all the instrument moving manually. I never carry more than 6 bags around; with 1 open inventory slot and 1 instrument in the other slot, it's pretty easy to swap weapons with instruments.* With Duxa's UI, hot keys don't even need to be made to do this. However, without the UI, you'll have to drag inventory slots, as well as primary/second equipment slots over to the hotkey bar.

*If you click on my Magelo link in my signature, you'll see exactly how I set up my inventory for easy swapping.

The person who told you this was referring to the /bandoleer (sp?) command, which comes much further along in EQ.

Otherwise, for now it works like the above posters said.

In velious, with the introduction of the drums of the beast, which are primary equippable, it becomes much more efficient.

All you have to do is keep your drums on your mouse cursor floating above your primary weapon slot, and when your song is about to hit you click it in, then click your weapon back in, only losing a fraction of a second.

And I thought canni/sitting/canni constantly was bad. Fuck being a bard, ever.

It can be fun, if you don't mind the RSI. And the people who don't understand that it's a bit tricky to constantly chat while twisting songs.

This. People tend to think I'm being rude when I'm on my bard. I can't keep hitting 11,22,33 twisting songs AND talk at the same time.

I suggest making hotkeys like

/stopsong
/cast 1

to cut down on having to click a song twice.

And instrument switching isn't that bad. EQ is such a dumbed down game compared to all the current iterations out there, that the Bard is really the only class that the dexterity/quick thinking that other games have trained us on has its place.

I played a bard for only 25 levels before I got tired of the constant button mashing. I have a lot of respect for bards who play their classes well.

Aye, learn to type as much as you can in 3 second bursts if you are a bard. I'm pretty sure most people I group with think I'm an idiot due to the masses of typos I never correct. If you are swapping instruments may as well give up on talking and dedicate a bank of hotkeys to what you need to say.

To the OP Duxa's UI was a revelation for me. I use the same set up as Zander, carrying 6 bags and leaving two slots free for swapping/clickie. If you are using the Velious UI just place the relevant inventory slots on your hotbar.
