Hello,

I've seen several threads explaining what strafe running is and how to do it, most notably in the guides to bard aoe kiting, but nothing regarding the issue I'm having.

It seems that when I strafe and run forward at the same time, it works fine, but if I try to add a turn using mouselook into the mix, the strafe part of what I'm doing cancels out until I stop turning, it simply turns and moves forward... then continues the strafe if I stop turning with the mouse. It seems like, according to everything I've read, if I'm aoe kiting, I should be able to strafe-run outward WHILE turning.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Or is this how it is supposed to be? I play in windowed mode (full screen only gives me a black screen... something about using dual monitors screws this up from what I've read... I use a windowed mode the same aspect ratio as one of my monitors).

I appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Thanks!

I guess in my experience it's ONLY possible to strafe-run WHILE using mouselook, i.e. if you're running straight you have to add your right-click FIRST and then begin strafing. Otherwise the two won't combine and you'll get what it sounds like you've been getting, some kind of conflict between linear vectors, rather than their synthesis, if that makes sense. That's all I can think of to try.

Ahh okay. I'll give that a try when I get home.

Thanks for the reply!

I also play in windowed mode, but I don't have any issues with mouselook + strafe + run.

One weird thing though - while strafe running, only my first 4 number keys work. If I want to twist in a song bound to my #5 hotkey, I have to let off the strafe button before tapping it.

Makes me wonder if it's a keyboard / driver limitation.

Interesting. I have a spare (older) keyboard somewhere. I'll try that as well.

Okay so I've tried pressing the buttons in different orders (forward+strafe+mouse click... forward+mouse click+strafe... etc.) and none of them allow me to do all three.

I tried plugging in an older Dell keyboard (my main is a Logitech) and installing those drivers made no difference. I also tried playing with the max FPS slider thinking maybe the frame limit would have an issue with my movement.

I'm not sure what else to do. I can aoe kite, but it has to be in staggered motions with the mouse to allow my character sufficient strafing away from the mobs, resulting in much larger circles. I was just hoping to simplify it a bit.

Does anyone else have any insight on possible solutions?

Thanks again!

I also tried playing with the max FPS slider thinking maybe the frame limit would have an issue with my movement.

When I first started playing on this server movement felt very weird, especially doing strafe running with mouse look. I happen to complain about it once while grouping and the guy basically told me that I had to change the max FPS to 50.

Once I did that, it was a night and day difference. Back to the old responsive mouse look and strafe running I remembered.

Not sure if that is what you are having trouble with, but if you haven't tried it already it would be worth a shot.

Cheers,

Thanks Shadow. I know exactly what you mean about that being a night and day difference. The default Max FPS of 100 made mouse look go really slow, and lowering it makes it feel like a regular game again heh.

Unfortunately the problem I have is when I try to mouse turn (right mouse button) while trying to run forward and strafe at the same time. The mouse turn (or even if I keyboard turn) always overrides the strafe part of my actions until I stop turning, at which point it begins to strafe again. Seems so simple, but very noticeable. =/

Doh that sucks. Hopefully someone else has run into it and can lend a hand.
