Has anyone seen/heard about this game? It's in open beta right now and it is amazing... I just found out that chars aren't wiped after the OB, they carry over to release. So... yea... I'm gonna be playing a lot. Post in this thread if you are going to also, maybe we can get a P99 clan going :D http://www.pathofexile.com/
P.S. It's free to play, not pay to win
Edit: Thread already on this game - http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=97823&page=3 |

They had some very good ideas (passive tree, skill gems, currency items) which carry the game, but the developers are very clearly just incompetent developers. I don't even mean that as some hyperbole insult, they're literally not very good at developing and programming. The game has possibly the worst netcode in the history of online gaming, most of the skills are terrible, and the content is far from balanced. They're releasing a new skill every week lately and so far the first two skills have both been ridiculously bad. The game is basically released - all the content is open, characters are permanent, they're charging for microtransaction services - but they're calling it open beta so they can use that as an excuse for every complaint. The game had already been in closed beta for like over a year, and some of the game's biggest issues have gone unfixed for that long.

Oh and it's FREE.
I'm having a blast playing the game, mostly because I don't meta and just enjoy playing it with my friends. Balanced or not (as if any game is ;p) it's good fun.

I can see some of the issues you're describing - but I think it's a real stretch to call the devs incompetent. This game really is like an uber-graphics Diablo 2... which is amazing. I really like the potion set up / drops / socketing too. The skill tree is amazing (imo) and allows for deep customization. Not to dismiss your complaints... but they seem a bit frivolous :D

They're a small bunch of guys who decided to try and make a game. Most of them have no prior experience. The game is so crippled by lag and balance issues stemming from their lack of developing expertise that incompetence kind of seems like the right word. The game is still fun but it's because of a few key features, not because the game is particularly well-made.

This game is pretty terrible for a 2013 project imo. I just got done beating it in 2 days and all I did was hold down the left mouse button for like 10 hours straight while eating potions (multistrike + AE splash damage + dual wield).
There is literally 0 strategy or anything for fighting. You just fill out skill nodes to try and bolster the power of 1 skill then hold the left mouse button down for the entire day.
The skill tree gives you the illusion of depth, but all the nodes are virtually identical for every class. If they did a real class system instead, it would have much more variety.
The entire game right now is based around "do as much AE dmg as you can as fast as possible to clear minion waves before they kill you". It's so dumbed down game design that it feels like I'm playing an Atari 2600 game with much better graphics.

This game is free, but D3 paid me to play it. Paid me about $500
