I'm a new player here on Red99, and I wanted to say hello and ask a few basic questions about the server. So; Hi! :)

And as far as PvP goes, what is the level range here? I remember it being 4 on RZ, 8 on VZ/TZ and wtfever on SZ. How much xp is lost on pvp death, and can this be rezzed? And how exactly does guard assist work here?

Also, I've chosen to be a druid because I really love the class and fun nature-y stuff; will this end up being a bad choice? I know like half the server is druid because it's fun and easy to solo with them, and I really hope this doesn't limit my guild/group options in the future. I've been lurking your forums here, and it kind of saddens me that it's kind of taboo to talk about enjoying PvE. Of course I played PvP way back in the day, but 'Zek EQ was the full package and that most definitely included PvE content. I never got to raid that much, and I'm perfectly content doing solo/group content, but it just kinda seems a shame that the population is so low that there's only 1 raiding guild on the server. Hopefully this changes someday.

Oh, and I heard there was an experience bonus? Can someone explain this to me please, because it has taken me foreverrr to get to level 4 :/

Oh yeah, and what level can I serverwide ooc? And is there to make it so that threads I post in show up in my usercp thing when a new post is made in that thread? That's how other forums work for me and I'm a little confused about how to track threads and posts.

The pvP range changes as you level;
Levels 1 to 19: 4 Levels
Levels 20 to 39: 6 Levels
Levels 40+: 8 Levels

If you get killed in PvP you lose xp but its far less than a PvE death, but you can not be ressurected for the prupose of regaining xp (can still be revived though).

Play what you want also, I started here with a few RL friends and having a druid is almost a necessity. Plus it's a safe choice for solo and group play which is important when you don't know too many people yet.

As far as the experience bonus... I dunno to be honest, their absolutely was one a few months back but I think the general concensus is that it is either gone completely or very miniscule now. Don't let that bum you out though, their are lots of places to level relatively quickly even without it.

Pve is important. Its just 90% of the people crying on the forums are the rejects who get dominated pve and pvp wise. So they act like pve doesnt matter to them. Funny thing is when they get one raid target they post 20 screen shots and brag. Same for pvp, they get dominated. Cry about how nihilum farmed old world for months. Coming from the people who got a head start on vztz, used mq and exploits on vztz and spammed the forums for months pre launch of red saying they were gona dunk on everyone. Now 75% stalk the forums acting like its a dead server, but scared to log on because they will be owned.

Picking a druid was probably the best option starting new on this server. You will be able to port around easily, Get your own sows etc and track. Then once high level you can eventually make another char if you so wish it that would normally been near impossible to gear up/farm plat with and have a friend PL you with your druid while your on new char.

EQ is just a funny sort of game. It's extremely difficult to start out, but then once you're at the top it's simple to stay there. This is classic, but I don't think anyone can deny that this is a big part of the problem. Grinding to level 8 as a wis caster is torture, and the fact that you eat almost every PvE death from level 5-30+ most certainly doesn't help, either. Removing the xp loss in PvP death only really seems to help the higher level people, and not the people leveling up. I know I would much rather take a small xp loss from PvP than have griefers making me die intentionally to NPCs I'm engaged with. Higher levels have cleric friends around their level to rez them, and because of the unrezzable xp loss from PvP they prefer training themselves and getting rezzed later.

Maybe the xp loss should be scaled back a lot, if it's as bad as everyone says it is. But I feel it should stay in, just so people have some incentive beyond coin loot to not just root each other on NPCs to waste as much of their time as possible (finding rez, maybe logging out to preserve rez timer).

The game is simply tough, and without a higher population things just are not that fun at the lower levels. I can't understand why so many people prefer playing blue to red. That's all we would need to make this the best emulated server ever: more people. Even with their endgame being a massive letdown, the bluebies still refuse to come over here. Having missed out on launch kind of sucks; I've soloed for all of my xp so far and have only had one PvP encounter when some dumb melee kept attacking me near the Kelethin guards. There are always people to group with at the lower levels on blue, and most of them seem new to that server. Why aren't they coming here?

I don't want to sound like a troll, and I know something like this would probably never happen, but I really do wish that an account would need a level 20 character on red before they were allowed to make one on blue. The twinks, griefers and harsh penalties weren't nearly this bad on live, and it's not because the mechanics here are harsher. It's that on live, you always had potential friends to make at any level.

I'm not sure what could be done about that, beyond forcing our style of play upon the bluebies in some manner. And that would probably be selfish of us.

Want to actually heal and make a difference? Clerics are most needed class
