What happened to the "getting started" stuff? Why would you neglect the very thing that's going to help people get started using your service!?
From here http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2651 I click "installation and startup guide" and I'm redirected to the forum start page.
Someone help, please... I'm new

Why would you post this in RNF?

Scroll down that post you are reading. All the info is in that post

I don't know why that links it like that. Yet if you just scroll slightly down, you will see where it tells you everything. Nothing is neglected.

2) Getting Started - Play Guide

In order to play on Project 1999 you must obtain a copy of Everquest: Titanium Edition. Only a clean Titanium install will work. See our FAQ for more information.

Step 1 - Installation
Install Everquest Titanium to a fresh directory. This directory must be separate from any live Everquest installs and dedicated to EQEmulator.
DO NOT PATCH EVERQUEST. If you patch your Titanium install you will need to delete it and start over.

Step 2a - Forum Account
You will need to create an EQEmulator forum account in order to create a loginserver account. Do so by visiting EQEmulator.org and signing up for a forum account. Activate the account via the validation email.

Step 2b - Loginserver Account
Once you have validated your EQEmulator Forum Account, you must create a Loginserver account by visiting the Loginserver Page. It is strongly suggested that you do not use the same Username and/or Password as the forum account.
Make sure you do not forget this password, it cannot be reset or recovered.

Step 3 - EQEmu Launcher
We have simplified our patching process to utilize a global launchpad for all EQEmulator servers. Please download the EQEmu Launcher.
Install this launcher to handle the EQHost Configuration and Installation of required play files for Project 1999.

Step 4 - Optional WinEQ
Many users experience problems with proper CPU/Core Utilization or crashing which can be fixed by using WinEQ2. You can download this program from Lavishsoft.

Step 5 - Optional Files
These files are not included in the EQEmulator Launcher, nor are they required to play on either server. You may utilize them for your own enjoyment/experience.

To experience the Velious style user interface, navigate to your EQ Directory, then into your UIFiles folder. Create a folder named 'velious'. Download and extract this ZIP file into that folder: Velious UI Files.
To use this interface in game, you must /loadskin velious.

To hear the old style midi songs for loading, death, and combat, move the following files out of your EQ Directory (Into a Backup Folder):
eqtheme.mp3
combattheme1.mp3
combattheme2.mp3
deaththeme.mp3

I swear sometimes the EQEmuLauncher is more trouble than its worth. And I can't believe all the information regarding setting up P99 without the Launcher has been removed...

Here goes:
1) Default install of EQ: Titanium (other clients will NOT work). Copy/pasting the EQ folder from another install works just fine here. (For consistency, I'm going to assume you installed EQ to C:\Everquest so that the eqgame.exe path is C:\Everquest\eqgame.exe.)
2) Right-click on the eqgame.exe icon within your everquest folder, select Create Shortcut.
3) Right-click on the Shortcut to eqgame.exe you created in step (2). Select Properties.
4) In the Properties menu that appears, edit the target line to say "C:\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme. The quotes are only needed around the destination string if it contains spaces. Select Apply and then OK to close the properties box.
5) Open the C:\Everquest\eqhost.txt file in the text editor of your choice.
6) Delete whatever is in the eqhost.txt file and replace it with the following two lines:
[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998
7) Save and close the eqhost.txt file.
8) Download the latest eqchangesvXX.zip file from the patch notes. As of this post, we are on v27, found here (http://www.project1999.org/files/eqchangesv27.zip).
9) Extract the eqchangesvXX.zip file into the C:\Everquest directory, overwriting any files it asks for.
10) Within the C:\Everquest directory, delete the following files to allow these updated zones to function properly on P99:
arena.eqg
arena_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
lavastorm.eqg
nektulos.eqg
Nektulos_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
11) Log into the server with the account you created at EQEmulator.org (http://www.eqemulator.org/).
12) Select Project1999: The Ruins of Kunark from the server list.
13) Enjoy playing on P99.

I only came back here to update with the fact that I'm an idiot and to make this clear for anyone else having the same problem... It would seem all the coffee I've had today is not helping me go through these steps... Thanks for not telling me I'm a dumb@$$, folks :)

I don't know what RNF is, but I think you may be jumping to conclusions... I am sorry if this is in the wrong category, but I don't think it is.

I was too hasty in deciding that the whole process was broken, when all I had to do was scroll down, but that doesn't change the fact that the links in the contents are not working correctly... Making it a "technical" issue :( That's why I posted where I did.

[edit]

Thanks again to those who provided assistance

should have a central repository for each V##.zip, or at least the latest, not everyone uses the installer; just a recommendation
