Usually I don't worry much about what is being said on the news but for some reason this shit looks like its actually going to happen. Seriously wtf is Kim Jong Un smoking? Hopefully someone can settle his little ass down before a whole lot of people die.

Who knows, but it's most likely just posturing. North Korea makes threats to the USA without ever following through with them all the time to make their country look powerful to their citizens.

from everything ive read this looks true
and its not so much a danger of the US getting attacked the danger really lies in what they would do to south korea
North Korea has a long history of making empty threats and its a tactic they have used for a number of reasons, primarily to keep the rest of the world in a state of panic to use for political leverage

There is a re balancing of forces in the pacific ocean happening right now. Most places are just getting back to pre-afghanistan/iraq levels. You are right that there is a shifting focus on Asia, but it isn't just for NKorea.

You are the one who made the thread, you should know that this entire news explosion about superior Corea is because they threatened U.S. soil. They've been threatening starcraft Corea and Japan every day for the past 60 years, the mainstream media's ears only perk up when superior Corea shouts to the world they have developed a new missile system.
Last I checked the patriot missile defense system had a 95% success rate in the second iraq war, and that was against SCUDs, compared to that an ICBM is a gigantic target.
SamwiseRed
03-30-2013, 05:48 PM
ah i was more worried about them zerging the border and launching a barrage of artillery than some out of date missiles. i still got pals in s korea, both civilian and military, so i am concerned. the main point is, if they decide to go forward with any kind of attack, there will be a massive amount of casualties (mostly their side) which is no bueno.
Kagatob

That I can agree with.
I have reason to suspect though that we have an everwatching eye on that nation so any amount of mobilization to even prepare for an attack would be seen coming far ahead of time.
The only thing that worries me is that they are a frightened animal backed into a corner. They've lost the support of their one and only remaining advocate (China) and have nowhere else to turn to. Even a frightened mouse will strike at the jaws of a cat when cornered.

Pretty sure North Korea doesn't have ICBMs, having a missile that could reach us is a little beyond them atm. Also it's pretty easy to get an ICBM past a missile defense system all you have to do is create similar sized objects that travel through the atmosphere along side it, and are as far as I know indistinguishable to the defense system.
Also, noones made a bomb as big as tsar bomba since then so don't worry about that =P and since most nuclear weapons are fusion based nowadays theres very little fallout comparably, since theyre only triggered by fission.
Greegon
03-31-2013, 12:30 PM
The dudes that dropped tsar bomba nearly died from it. But yeah, most nuclear weapons not nearly that big and will be cleaner than the original two dropped in japan. They've also developed quite a lot of interesting new kinds of bombs to use beside the classic hydrogen bomb

N Korea has always run her mouth. The reason the US is taking it more "seriously" now is an advancement of goals in the Pacific theater...especially regarding China. Tensions in the last couple of years have risen to the point that mainstream media is calling it a new "cold war"...and China has been exponentially increasing military strength and capability the last few years combined with dumping dollars and buying rare earth materials at a phenomenal rate.
All-out war is unlikely; however, skirmishes and regional warfare that indirectly involves China (N Korea) is VERY likely...almost unavoidable at this point.

Nuclear bomb? LOL. Fear asia destroying our economy by holding out on precious metals, more important silver. Almost all the silver in the world is mined by china anymore. Look what war in the middle east did to just the priceof oil. Now imagine what the price of silver would be. Silver at this point in time is worth more then gold if you take into account that everything electrical runs from silver. North korea is a joke though... When they get a satelite off the ground we can talk about nukes.

They also have a near monopoly on rare earth metals, which are used in most electronics. They limit and control what is exported. The US actually has a case with the WTO against them about this. It'll probably go no where though.
War with north Korea will make China very nervous. The triggers for a major war might be brewing right now and Korea is the catalyst.

Little Kim has taken it farther than his father, and is largely untested as of now so i don't think anyone is certain what he is capable of. However, you would think he would have to realize if he did actually attempt a nuclear strike it would be the end of his regime. It seem like China is getting a bit sick of his antics as well.

Also, why the fuck would i want to think about what some jerks on the news say? they only deliver canned approved bullshit .. I talk to actual people in other places to form opinions on what is going on. I find that method more consistent with my expectations of reality, whereas i find that the news media is often disingenuous with how they frame issues.

You are beyond dense.
No where did I say not to watch or look at the news being reported. I said remove their opinions and gather your own information from the facts (or, yakno, actually think).
You translated it into some fucked up retard language of "don't do media but do media"

Un canned a major general in the Norths army when he took power, he is actually sharing power right now. When he canned the general a schism formed among the ranks and tensions are high within the north. I think this is just saber rattling though so that he can try to either 1 get sanctions dropped or 2 go wow see I prevented a nuclear war!
A lot of propaganda going on. NK is a buffer state for China so Im sure that NK cant do much as a proxy without some type of approval from China. NK has crappy diesel subs with limited range and their missiles are crap. The US just moved a THAAD system into the pacific as well but like someone else mentioned I think the NK thing is being used to further move assets into the pacific so that with NATOs missile shield and our presences we have china and Russia literally surrounded.

North and South Korea are still at war but are under an armistice. The US has a military alliance with South Korea, the US is technically at war with them right now. Every year around spring time, North Korea has systematically been threatening nations or showing off something like their penis missile.
I think North Korea is the definition of an Orwellian State. I think at this point, the only things keeping the nation in order is their military through constant fear and, of course, the constant deifying of "fearless leader." At some point, some nation is going to get sick of their military posturing, and when North Korea steps over that line, they will be destroyed.

I'm worried about it. I don't want it to escalate further. War isn't good. But at the same time, if the leaderships in North Korea continues to fail so badly then war is inevitable as a rainy day.
Someone needs to dump a whole lot of food/water/medicine/books on the North Koreans. As it's, they've been nurtured to be dumb by the regime. 8+ million reserve troops that're blind to the world.
The regime can't control its people if it can't control food/water/medicine/etc.
If the military and the regime could dislodge from each other and the leaders could remove their heads from their butts then North Korea might start rising from its depravity and associating with the rest of the world.
I'm in my 30's and I don't think I'm too old to help my country if something bad happens. I don't htink it will get that bad, but if I had to I would. Worst case, I die, but at least I get remembered ok.
Bottom line, we all die. But not all of us get remembered good. That's what it's all about.
Which is all the more reason that I spend my time wisely and produce strong memories.
Usually I don't worry much about what is being said on the news but for some reason this shit looks like its actually going to happen. Seriously wtf is Kim Jong Un smoking? Hopefully someone can settle his little ass down before a whole lot of people die.
