Now that it's over (east coast) I must admit that it is quite the convoluted holiday. I am still surprised how many cultures have passed it on, picked it up and modified it to suit their means. Even more so than Halloween and Christmas have been.

Makes me wonder if there are any holidays that top it in that regard.

It's all seasons. The Spring holiday is probably the biggest because people are so grateful Winter is over. What's amazing is that all of those cultures kept such similar names.
