View Full Version : I need ideas for funding my low level character

I just started a couple days ago and I'm currently a level 7 gnome necromancer. I have been killing yellows and reds, which means I have probably been leveling faster than normal. That might be the reason I'm getting close to level 8 with only enough platinum to buy 3 level 8 spells (they are 4 pp and some change a piece) and I was wanting 8 total (about 20-22 pp short with 3 bars of exp to go).

The only thing I can think of is start killing blues so I kill more mobs per exp gained to get some more pp. Anyone have any good ideas for raising some money at low levels. I'm fighting skeletons mostly right now for bone chips (for my pets), cloth armor and rusty weapons that I'm selling to vendors.

Any areas near steamfont that can make me some better $? I don't remember ever doing any quests but are there any that yield some pp? If I remember correctly when I started the game for the first time in 1999 I followed around a high elf wizard that was killing steamfont guards and got the fine steel weaopn/shields cause he couldn't carry them .. but unfortunately when I logged onto project 1999 he wasn't there heh.

and you just sell the belts to merchants?

Nope, sell them to players for about 1pp each.

Minotaurs at the northwest corner of the zone in that slave-camp area, they occasionally drop Minotaur Battle Axes which sell to vendors for some 3-4pp each. And I think rarely a gem worth a few pp, too. Got an emereld and an opal from em some months back, both of which sold for over 10p. =o

Think the boogers are early teens, so at lvl12 you can kill em easy peasy.

Any ideas for the Freeport (or even gfaydark other than belts) side of things? I'm level 5 at the moment and most of what I've earned has come from skeletons/orc pawns and their weapons.

Best way to earn pp in the freeport area is to go to EC and start farming cats and bears. HQ pelts can be sold to players right there in EC. HQ cat pelts go for 5pp HQ bear pelts go for 10pp.

You could also take all of the other pelts you gather and start learning how to do tailoring.

Also Spider/Spiderling Silks can be gathered and either sold to players or used in your tailoring.

As mentioned, belts belts and more belts.

If you are a caster class, or have a magic weapon, at about 10 you can kill wisps. The greater lightstones sell for like 5-6p to vendors, or you can turn them in to an NPC in the Karanas for a tome that sells for 10p.

If you are feeling saucy, roll an enchanter, level it to 8 or 12 (depending on race) and do the stein of moggok quest a few times. Sell stein(s) for 200-300p a piece in EC.

Casters can do Wisps at 8, but it's hard and you have to high summon your pet (if mage / necro) easier at 10 or 12.

Also can turn in the lightstones in South Ro.

Try to move in on Richgirls casino and start your own. Although be careful, she may break your legs.

Mage pet can kill them at lvl 8. You just need the whisp to take damage from the fire elemental damage shield (since the pet can't do magical attacks at that level). You won't have to nuke until the whisp starts retreating.

WK bandits drop bandit sashes that you can turn in for exp + bronze weapon which sells to the vendor literally right next to him for 1-5pp. As a gnome necro though you may need to kill a few gnolls before you'll be able to do the quest and even enter qeynos, but that just means you'll gain more exp. gnoll fangs will give you decent exp all the way to lvl 12, and by then you should be able to solo the bandits.

Stay away from the half-elf male, he's a nasty caster :P

Finally, don't worry about your platinum. As a necro you won't have a real need to gear up until you decide to raid, really. So just save your money for spells and level as fast as you can. Once you hit lvl 50 you can farm all the money you need.

Never had much luck selling pelts. Seems like nobody is ever buying. They just take up room in my bank. BUY MY DAMN PELTS!

I will say one thing about belts if you plan to farm them just to make money you might be disappointed. You basically have to get lucky when someone rolls through with a level 1 toon to power level themselves on belts.

So If you can wait around for someone to buy them, than they are great I got impatient and just went and turned all my in. But I read you were a necro and I'm not sure if you can enter Kaladim and not get Killed =P

Belts are unreliable sales. Pelts are.

ALWAYS offer a dramatic lowball for anything someone is selling in EC. Pretend William Shatner is hovering over your shoulder mocking your sexuality for not offering low enough if you have to. Prices are retarded due to mudflation and an outbreak of ultra-geared twinks, so no one knows what any of the untwinked lowbie gear is worth because no one buys it. As a result, the minimum price for these items tends to be around 100p.

Offer 10-20p (10-20% of asking). Seriously. Most people have no clue and are just throwing a number up there fishing for some ultra-twink who will buy their +2 STR rings for 50plat each. When you offer 5, they'll typically sell to you.

If there's one thing I've learned in these types of games, it's that people want to be told what to do.

If you are on the Qeynos side of things and can't seem to make any decent plat, then I have news for you:

Rabid wolves
Rabid grizzlies

All located in the Qeynos Hills area.

Take their NO-TRADE (diseased/putrid) pelts to the temple of life, inside the flying saucer, to Priestess Caulria. Trade them to her one at a time. She will cast cure disease on you (if you've been stuck with rabies for a while) and also give you a hefty bit of exp if you're under level 10. Especially if you have pelts en masse. Most of the time, if not every time, she will give you a Spell: Endure Disease which can be vendored for a little over a plat each. You already get a plat from the quest itself, so by turning in multiple pelts the pp really adds up.

Don't forget that if you find a Fleshy Orb you can turn them in to the same person and she will send you on a quest to freeport. The turn-in there rewards you with a fine steel weapon which sells very nicely.

How are you wrong SO OFTEN.Yes any character can ask a mage for a level 1 summoned dagger to kill wisp and give them to to the pet.

But you don't have to be a toolbox about it.

Anyway, killing low level wisp found in EC and Nek forest (watch out for guards if you are KOS) is pretty nice and was part of my regiment for any new server that opened up on live way back in the day. Mages are always in EC tunnle and you can ask one for a summoned weapon for the pet. Greater Lightstones get traded for the Concordance of Research which in turn sells back to the vendor for 9pp a pop.

Great way to finance any character starting off in EQ (As a melee you can get a full suit of banded pretty cheap [75pp] and a PGT[75-100pp] to start & casters need even less than that).

if your hunting HQ pelts for cash.
a good side job to that is, start your tailoring, gather silks along with your pelts.
get tailoring up some and make leather padding with silks+LQ pelts.
smiths will pay pretty decent cash for them, few months ago i was paying about 150p a stack, idk wht the going price is today but still...

My wife and I are currently levels 17 and 18, we have 496pp as of last night. We are completely untwinked, these are our first characters on p1999, I'm pretty sure we have a good amount of $$ for our level.

Basically we never ever destroy loot or let anything rot. Rusty weapons, raw hide equipment, cloth, gems etc - we loot all and make merchant runs. Currently we're doing Rathe aviaks til we hit about 22ish, unless I finish Shovel of Ponz quest anyways and my pet gets beefy then we'll be hitting UGUK.

I'm positive our route to 500p wasn't unique (collecting and selling *all loot) however when I played my first character on live I was SO broke. I'm positive the difference was that I was too concerned with being encumbered, and also played a melee character who couldn't gate to directly in front of the merchant. (i.e my wife is bound in front of a merchant in Lake Rathe so we drop all our loot on her, all our cash on me, she gates/sells, then boats back unencumbered).

Also we're a mage/enc and have every single spell available to us, including all lvl 20 spells in our bags and still have ~500pp. Lastly we never have and I seriously doubt ever will buy items from other players considering we're INT casters. Our mana pools and INT only drive our kill speed, but will never determine survivability for us.

Just bumping this as I think I have a little more info that could be of use to those of you looking for some $ at mid-lower levels.

I have been farming/exping off the 3 spawn Aviaks in Lake Rathetear since Thursday (today is tuesday july 6) loc 2485 1002. My wife and I arrived both at level 17, myself a magician and her an enchanter. We are now level 22 with give/take 24ish hours played.

In that time we have made 1198 platinum in 24 hours played from drops (no rare drops) and coin loot. My wife is bound at the merchants across the lake, so she loots everything then gates when our spawn times have the largest increment inbetween last kill -> next spawn, sells, invis's and swims back - arriving usually exactly when the next spawn is due.

facts -
Mob: an aviak guard
Level: 16-20
Social: Yes (lull/soothe/calm work just fine)
Timer 6 Minutes
Type: Warrior
Hardest Hit: 45
HP: ~450-550
Loot: Avg. 2 gold per kill
- Words
- Runes
- Bronze Weapons (2/5 times, note some of these sell for 5-6pp)
- Malachite/Lapis Lazuli/Jasper
Comments: Gained 5 levels with my wife in ~24 hours (17-22), gained around 1200pp.

Why are women like hard-wood floors?

Lay 'em right the first time and you can walk all over them for the rest of your life.

Not sure... I recalled mages being able to summon daggers, etc - I believe those count as 'magical' weapons, IIRC.

So.. either way...

I did notice - the pet will equip them.

It's been mentioned but Willowisps are great especially for levels 8 - 14 or so, you can level up and make like 500pp+ during that period. It can be frustrating when you kill 5 before seeing a greater light stone, but when you finally do land one it's like hitting the jackpot! I like to set a goal of 2 backpacks full of GLS before I make the trip to SRo, and it feels great to head back to EC with 200 plats for spending.

That's what I love about being low levels - those minor victories are more frequent and feel just as good (to me) than anything higher up ever does.
