So. I've been following the ring'o links that go nowhere for a while and figured: I've searched the forums enough, I can now go ahead and look like a duffus.

First--on this screen http://www.project1999.org/we will see that it says in pretty red letters To start playing, use our Setup Guide on the left. We will note that there is no link on left with said label.

But, there is "Getting Started" link--that must be the way! So let us follow that to here..
http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2651. Aha! Table of contents, scanning...there it is..
2) Getting Started (Installation and Set Up Guide! BINGO
Follow the link to..
http://www.project1999.org/forums/#setupguide
WTF!?
And so on and on for ever link to and mention of this fabled Setup Guide or Installation guide.
There are a ton of links to moestavern...which is down of course. And links to dl the launcher. But what if you do not want the launcher? What if You would like to be able to NOT do this automatically? What if the launcher hates your comp and won't work?
What if there was nutritional value to corn?

It seems to my admitted newbness that this very basic thing--the Setup Guide-- should actually work...just sayin'

So, could, would, should? some one please share the secret info of where I can find, access, use the files I need to dl to play on p99. The spell files, patches etc?

Thank you and good hunting.
Except that guy.

p99-Wicked, Shadow Knight of Ten Seasons. And one seasoning. Salt. Must have that, it is tasty.

peq-Algiers Masterofgimpnitude, RANGER BEEEACH!

Ah, weird, I did not realize they took down the direct download of the spell files. Even the link in the patch notes 404.

I guess they decided computers are too hard for people, must use patcher!

Check main site for manual files I think... Look to the last patch and try to find an EQchanges vxx .zip or whatever

Here goes:
1) Default install of EQ: Titanium (other clients will NOT work). Copy/pasting the EQ folder from another install works just fine here. (For consistency, I'm going to assume you installed EQ to C:\Everquest so that the eqgame.exe path is C:\Everquest\eqgame.exe.)
2) Right-click on the eqgame.exe icon within your everquest folder, select Create Shortcut.
3) Right-click on the Shortcut to eqgame.exe you created in step (2). Select Properties.
4) In the Properties menu that appears, edit the target line to say "C:\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme. The quotes are only needed around the destination string if it contains spaces. Select Apply and then OK to close the properties box.
5) Open the C:\Everquest\eqhost.txt file in the text editor of your choice.
6) Delete whatever is in the eqhost.txt file and replace it with the following two lines:
[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998
7) Save and close the eqhost.txt file.
8) Download the latest eqchangesvXX.zip file from the patch notes. As of this post, we are on v27, found here.
9) Extract the eqchangesvXX.zip file into the C:\Everquest directory, overwriting any files it asks for.
10) Within the C:\Everquest directory, delete the following files to allow these updated zones to function properly on P99:
arena.eqg
arena_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
lavastorm.eqg
nektulos.eqg
Nektulos_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
11) Log into the server with the account you created at EQEmulator.org.
12) Select Project1999: The Ruins of Kunark from the server list.
13) Enjoy playing on P99.

click on the file link and save it. then extract it to your EQ folder. Your done.

Well, what is so hard is that the "setup" guide has links in it that just brings you to the main forums, and nowhere in the instructions does it tell you to dig through the forums to find the latest patch notes and in there you will find the files you are looking for.

It's obviously a problem, since this question seems to be asked weekly.

It also doesn't help that the latest patch notes are not sticky in that forum, and older patches have replies that are newer than the newer patch notes.

Good guy Greg would see that and bump the latest patch thread to be sure it was on top :p
