rumor has it, this is a quest item yet no one figured it out on live. any figure it out here or better yet, did the devs even quest it?

yes it is supposedly an unsolved quest, along with dozens of other quests that were never solved on live. I would guess that:

A- the quest was broken, like so many other live quests and never fixed

B- nobody made any progression with it because no one wanted to run around handing in a super rare item to an NPC only to have it eaten

or C- the devs are full of shit and wanted to fuck with people

either way, since no one ever found any real information about a quest involving the item, it certainly has no quest on this server and therefore is best not handed into any NPC

I concur on the hundreds. Dev's stated a long time ago that there were over a hundred classic quests that had never even been started. And as someone who rewrote most of the classic quests here (and poorly I might add), I can confirm there was still a TON of them.

I know i spent months trying to figure out the unfinished molds you get in crushbone when you turn in various crap on live when i was bored with the grind to 85, i never figured those out either....they will haunt me until i'm old and senile in the nursing home mumbling ....unfinished blade mold....

I asked Smed this on an AMA,
he confirmed GBS was never used in a live quest and just a rumor to me.

Norrath was ripe with UNFINISHED quests by the team, however, look at iksar pike line etc and references but unable to complete.

I had a glowing red stone on my Druid on live many moons ago. It was a decent wisdom item and gave the same cool red glow effect. I had something similar in my offhand, too. Having two glowing hands as a druid was pretty cool :) I rarely saw it available for sale.

I understand it was eventually fixed but by that point I'd already jumped ship.

If its the same GBS i'm thinking about, its not a quest but a drop in Qeynos Hills. A friend and I camped it for about a week 24/7 ( I worked nights he worked days haha) and there was a trick to it that involved not killing certain pathers around the skelly ruins or something. Not sure my friend was the one that finally got the named to spawn and get the drop, seems like it was a female gnome that dropped it and can't remember the name.
